FREE Streaming Alert: Kong: Skull Island Available Next Month

In 2017, the film “Kong: Skull Island,” starring Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston, was a moderate success and will soon become more accessible to a wider audience. This movie served as a revival of the “King Kong” series and an initial part of the Monsterverse. In “Kong: Skull Island,” a team of scientists and soldiers journeyed to Skull Island in the 1970s, where they crossed paths with the famous giant ape named Kong. The movie grossed $568 million at the box office (with production costs ranging from $450-500 million to turn a profit) and garnered decent reviews, placing it in the middle tier when comparing it to other well-regarded “King Kong” films.

On June 1, 2025, Tubi will add new titles to its streaming platform, one of which is Kong: Skull Island. You can access Tubi for free, as it generates income through advertisements. At the moment, you can stream Kong: Skull Island (ad-free) on HBO Max, if you’re willing to pay the subscription fee. Additionally, Hunter Schafer’s Cuckoo, the Taken trilogy, and the Academy Award-winning film Moonlight are some of the other titles that will be available on Tubi starting June 2025.

What This Means For Kong: Skull Island

The Movie Will Get Some More Post-Release Exposure

Kong: Skull Island wasn’t a flop when it was first released, but movies that bombed or only did moderately well at the box office can sometimes see a comeback on streaming platforms. However, these streaming success stories are usually found on services like Netflix. Kong: Skull Island has already gone through its streaming cycle and is now available on Max. Yet, it seems the conditions for another streaming resurgence may not be present anymore.

On the other hand, one advantage of Tubi is that it’s free, making it an attractive option for those who haven’t subscribed to Max yet and either missed Kong: Skull Island or wish to rewatch it effortlessly. The ads on Tubi might slightly disrupt the viewing experience, but they probably won’t deter viewers significantly. In all likelihood, this streaming update will only modestly increase the visibility of the eight-year-old movie with a marginal boost in exposure.

Our Take On Kong: Skull Island Being Added To Tubi

Skull Island Probably Isn’t Going To Be A Streaming Hit At This Point

Despite my doubts, I struggle to accept that Kong: Skull Island will turn out to be a major box office success within the next month. While it might seem illogical when considering production costs, streaming platforms such as Netflix and Max have far greater publicity, and when they add movies to their collection, it tends to create a bigger stir. I believe that Kong: Skull Island has already received most of the public acclaim it will get, with strong sales for both its theatrical and home media releases already behind us. At least, this development offers an attractive viewing option for fans of the movie who are looking to catch a deal.
