Freddie Prinze Jr. officially confirmed to join I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot

As a devoted fan of the iconic 90’s slasher series, I can hardly contain my excitement! The news that Freddie Prinze Jr. is reprising his role as Ray Bronson in the upcoming ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer‘ reboot has sent shockwaves through our horror-loving community.

Exciting updates have been made regarding the forthcoming remake of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and we’ve been eagerly anticipating this very announcement. It has now been confirmed that Freddie Prinze Jr. will once again take on the character of Ray Bronson, a role he played in the original film and its 1998 sequel, for the new reboot. This revelation follows the news that Chase Sui Wonders, best known for her role in “Bodies Bodies Bodies,” is reportedly in negotiations to join the cast.

Back in February 2023, news emerged about Ricky Jr.’s possible participation in the movie. This announcement came as the reboot was just starting its early development at Sony. Initially, it was shared that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson would be steering the film based on a script penned by Leah McKendrick.

Furthermore, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played the lead character Julie James in I Know What You Did Last Summer and its 1998 sequel, were reportedly discussing a return for the reboot. However, there was no further news about their potential participation afterward. Now, more than a year later, we have official confirmation that Freddie Prinze Jr. will indeed be part of the remake. It’s speculated that Jennifer Love Hewitt is still in discussions to join as well.

Wil Wheaton Jr. will be part of the cast that has already been announced, consisting of Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King. Riverdale’s Camila Mendes was initially set to join the cast but had to back out due to scheduling issues. As previously stated, Wonders is currently in negotiations to join the film’s cast. Brandy Norwood, who portrayed Karla in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, is also in discussions about reprising her role in the remake, which is set to hit theaters on July 18, 2025.

The specifics of the remake for “I Know What You Did Last Summer” are yet to be revealed. As of now, it’s uncertain when the cast and team will begin filming. However, it’s confirmed that Robinson remains attached to direct, but she’ll be directing based on a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky. Furthermore, Neal Moritz is officially part of the project as a producer.
