Freaky Friday sequel shares first look at Chad Michael Murray’s return

As a hardcore fan of the original “Freaky Friday” movie, I can’t contain my excitement about Chad Michael Murray’s return to the franchise! The first film holds a special place in my heart, and seeing Jake once again will be like a blast from the past. It’s been a rollercoaster ride since we last saw him on that motorcycle with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. I can only imagine what new body-swapping shenanigans they have in store for us this time around.

Freaky Friday 2 has shared a first look at Chad Michael Murray’s return.

In the initial film, the actor became widely known for portraying the charming character Jake. He is set to reappear in the upcoming installment, where he will be involved as the love interest of Anna (Lindsay Lohan) and her mother Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), as they encounter a fresh twist in their body-swapping experience.

Disney has given us a peek at Murray in his old role, as seen in a photo of him sitting on the back of a motorcycle.

“Jake is back, baby,” the studio captioned the post on Instagram.

Last year, I got excited when the news broke that there would be a follow-up to “Freaky Friday.” And just a few months ago in May, my excitement grew even more as the official release date of 2025 was announced!

In addition to Lohan, Curtis, and Murray, the film will feature the comebacks of Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.

Newcomers Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Sophia Hammons have joined the cast.

As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: In the initial film, I find myself inhabiting the roles of both mother and teenage daughter, Tess and Anna, unwillingly. Their once-strained relationship becomes even more complicated as we switch places, leading to some intriguing challenges.

In the current time, the second part of the story finds the duo experiencing another unexplainable case of body swapping and working on strengthening their bond.

Nisha Ganatra, who previously worked on “And Just Like That…,” will helm the upcoming film “Freaky Friday 2.” meanwhile, Jordan Weiss from “Dollface” is in charge of penning the script.

Prior to the announcement of a sequel, Curtis and Lohan hinted at its potentiality. In an interview with Variety back in early 2023, the Academy Award-winning Curtis expressed confidence: “We’re making it happen.”

In this very instant, I can’t help but feel that it’s a certainty – things are heading in that direction. It’s as if the pieces of the puzzle are falling into place, and there’s an undeniable sense of “it’s going to happen.”

The sequel to Freaky Friday will be released in 2025.
