Freakier Friday’s new trailer sees Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis embroiled in quadruple chaos as they body swap AGAIN – 22 years later

The latest Freaky Friday trailer features Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis once more entangled in a fourfold frenzy, as they exchange bodies yet again – this time two decades since their initial swap.

In the upcoming film, which serves as a continuation of the 2003 movie titled “Freaky Friday,” both Lindsay and Jamie will once again step into their initial characters, along with Chad Michael Murray.

In the initial movie, a mother and her teenage child (portrayed by Curtis and Lohan) found themselves exchanging physical forms following the mysterious message in a fortune cookie that held some enchantment.

In the sequel, the storyline is quite similar to the original, but there’s an unexpected turn of events centered around Gen Z teenagers that creates turmoil for everyone involved.

This time, Lindsay’s character Anna is gearing up for her wedding to Eric Davies (Manny Jacinto), but things are complicated because her teenage daughter Harper (Julia Butters) dislikes Eric’s teenage daughter Lily (Sophia Hammons).

Harper expresses her distaste upon overhearing a set of mock wedding vows where she refers to her future stepsister as a “small, annoying imp with a bothersome accent.

In a glimpse of Anna’s bachelorette party, we find Anna and her mother Tess Coleman having a reading with a fortune teller (Vanessa Bayer). The fortune teller hints that there may still be lessons for both of them to learn by experiencing each other’s journeys, as she observes that the quarreling teenagers ‘are destined to become family’.

As the fortune teller’s prophecy echoes ominously, “Adjust hearts that are misguided to reach your true destination,” Anna and Tess find themselves ensnared in another bizarre instance of body swapping – a twist being that this time, it isn’t limited solely to the two of them.

As I woke up the following day, I found myself in an utterly bewildering situation – it seemed that my spirit had traded places with my dear daughter Harper, while the familiar form of my step-daughter Lily bore a striking resemblance to none other than Tess, or ‘Grandma’. Quite the turn of events!

Fourfold confusion breaks out among them as they struggle to adapt to their fresh responsibilities, with mere days left before the wedding ceremony.

Simultaneously, the situation grows more intense as the teenage girls devise a scheme to permanently separate their parents, aiming to rekindle Anna’s relationship with her former sweetheart, Jake (portrayed by Chad Michael Murray).

Towards the end of last year, in November, Lindsay made an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. During this visit, she reminisced about taking up her character Anna again, alongside Curtis, for the upcoming sequel.

She expressed great enthusiasm, saying, “It’s been an absolute joy to bring this project to life!” Jamie Lee Curtis and I shared broad grins during the table reading that it was difficult for us to contain our excitement.

The Mean Girls actress remarked, “I believe our performance wasn’t great since we were too joyful. However, the film is hilarious; it’s incredibly amusing.

Additionally, last September, Jamie likewise shared his experiences working alongside Lohan during an interview with Extra.

She found it incredibly enjoyable; we spent quite some time together during the summer, about 42 days in total. There was plenty of laughter and tears shared among us.

This setup involves a four-position switch, making the atmosphere quite electrifying. We’re fortunate to have two charming and youthful actors gracing our presence, which I believe will captivate all of you.

The actress went on to say, “It’s delightful, you understand, it’s a film that the public adores, and they will continue to cherish this one too.

Additionally, Lohan also verified that the band Pink Slip, which originally appeared in the 2003 film, will be making a comeback in the upcoming sequel as well.

In conversation with IMDb, she shared her thoughts about revisiting her character and expressed, “It seems as if the melody never paused.

The iconic band, Pink Slip, is making a triumphant return, brimming with affection. It’s an exhilarating experience, as if they’ve never been apart!

Apart from what he mentioned earlier, Curtis added that the film seems scarier overall. It’s funnier too, with a greater emphasis on slapstick humor. Additionally, the plot twists appear more unsettling. In essence, this movie features more instances of character swapping.

2003’s Freaky Friday received favorable feedback from critics at its premiere, and it landed AnnaSophia Robb (Curtis) a Golden Globe nod for Best Actress in the Musical or Comedy category.

The movie also raked in $160.8 million in the box office on a budget of $26 million. 

At the same time, while Lindsay and Jamie were excited to rejoin the series, another actor showed less enthusiasm.

In April, it was disclosed that the director of the forthcoming ‘Freaky Friday’ sequel had requested a heartfelt cameo from Jodie Foster, but she declined the offer.

Jodie, 66, originated the role in the 1976 Freaky Friday that launched the franchise.

Ganatra, age 50, shared with Entertainment Weekly that we asked her, but Jodie politely refused, saying she won’t take on the role.

The filmmaker candidly admitted that they exhausted all possibilities, expressing that they were never able to determine why the star of Silence of the Lambs declined their offer.

According to Ganatra, it was planned that they would appoint the role of principal to her (Anna’s character) at the school she attends.

The ‘Freaky Friday’ franchise launched with the 1976 hit starring Foster and Barbara Harris.

Prior to their successful 2003 revamp, the show had previously spawned some TV movie spin-offs and even had a stage musical version.
