Frank Oz speaks out on the honor of being a Disney Legend
As a lifelong Disney enthusiast who has grown up with the magical touch of the company’s creations, I was absolutely thrilled to witness the 2024 Disney Legends Awards Ceremony at D23 Expo. The honorees, ranging from Hannah Montana to the regal queen of Wakanda, were a testament to the diverse and innovative spirit that has always defined Disney.
At the D23 Expo 2024, the prestigious event for Disney fans, the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony recognized several outstanding creators. Among those honored in 2024 were figures from Hannah Montana to the ruler of Wakanda. Additionally, tribute was paid to Star Wars pioneers Frank Oz, Harrison Ford, and John Williams, who were inducted into the class of 2024.
As a devoted fan, I can attest that The Walt Disney Company bestows the Disney Legends Award on exceptional artists and visionaries from its rich history. These creative minds have continuously pushed boundaries, questioned established norms, and broken free from traditional limitations to explore uncharted territories of innovation and excellence.
Frank Oz, famously known as Master Yoda, is well-respected in the world of Film and Television. In a recent interview, he expressed joy at being part of the Star Wars family again alongside Harrison Ford and John Williams this year. On a more personal level, he considers Yoda to symbolize challenge, humor, duty, determination, and weightiness.
Oz too discussed his venture into directing, which “unveiled an entirely fresh avenue that resonated with [him].” He expressed pride in a part focusing on the application of sound in films but humbly stated that his direction of “What About Bob” turned out “quite satisfactorily.”
In his latest addition to the Disney realm, he revisited his character from “Inside Out”. Previously, he and Dave Goelz portrayed two guards in the original film, while Oz lent his voice to one of the characters. For his part in the sequel, Oz once again voiced the character Dave, a role that amused him to be a part of, as he jokingly commented about it afterwards.
We were very happy to have been asked again, but we feel we can’t keep carrying the success of Pixar’s movies on our shoulders. I just hope in the future Pixar will be able to create other movies that are not so dependent on us for their success.
Hyperbole or not, we hope to hear more from Oz for years to come.
