Fox’s Most Exciting Midseason Release Is A Remake Of A Show That Ran For 18 Years

Fox is preparing a new midseason series called Best Medicine, which is based on the popular and long-running British show Doc Martin (it ran for an impressive 18 seasons!). Medical shows are currently very popular on television, with hits like Doc, Watson, and Brilliant Minds. And audiences also enjoy seeing the lighter, more humorous side of working in medicine.

As a big fan of TV comedies, I’ve noticed a real trend lately: medical comedies are everywhere. We’re seeing it with things like the potential Scrubs reboot and the new NBC show, St Denis Medical, coming out in 2024. And it’s not just straight comedy either – shows like Doctor Odyssey are mixing in drama and other elements. Even Fox is getting in on the action with Best Medicine, which is a remake of the British show Doc Martin. It feels like networks are really leaning into this blend of laughs and hospital life right now.

Fox’s Best Medicine Is The US Remake Of Doc Martin

The new Fox series, Best Medicine, premieres in January, and the network is optimistic about its potential. This American adaptation of Doc Martin features Josh Charles as Dr. Martin Best, a doctor from the city who’s thrown for a loop when he relocates to a small coastal town where he spent summers as a kid.

When Dr. Martin establishes his practice in a small town, he quickly becomes involved in the lives of its unique residents. Featuring Abigail Spencer, Josh Segarra, Cree, and Annie Potts, “Best Medicine” offers everything you’d want in a heartwarming and enjoyable show.

Doc Martin’s Successful Legacy Explained

What really stands out about this show is where it comes from. The original British series, Doc Martin, aired on ITV for an impressive 18 years, with 79 episodes across 10 seasons. The show featured a unique concept, starring Martin Clunes as the doctor, Dr. Martin Ellingham.

I absolutely loved Doc Martin! It’s such a charming show about a brilliant surgeon who develops a fear of blood, which is…unexpected, to say the least! He ends up moving to this really quiet town in Cornwall called Portwenn, and his life gets completely shaken up by all the quirky locals. It was seriously funny and heartwarming, and it’s no surprise it was so popular for so many years.

Why Doc Martin Fans Should Watch Best Medicine

British TV shows, like the popular series Death in Paradise, often last much longer than American shows because they have fewer episodes per season. Doc Martin is a great example – it ran for an amazing 18 years! The show was funny because of the clash between its very particular, perfectionist main character and the more laid-back people living in the town.

If you enjoy Doc Martin, you’ll want to check out Best Medicine when it premieres in January. Remakes of British comedies haven’t always succeeded in America – The Inbetweeners is a good example – but The Office proved that it can be done well. Best Medicine hopes to follow that same path and bring the unique charm of Doc Martin to American audiences.
