Fox News interview with Vice President Kamala Harris scores 7.1 million viewers

As a seasoned movie critic who’s seen more political dramas than I care to remember, I must say that Vice President Kamala Harris‘ interview on Fox News was a captivating performance worthy of an Academy Award for Best Actress (in Politics). The tension between her and Bret Baier was palpable, reminiscent of the nail-biting suspense in a classic cat-and-mouse thriller.

During a lively exchange on Fox News, Vice President Kamala Harris attracted an average viewership of 7.1 million people on Wednesday – marking her highest-rated television news interview since she was nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate.

During his talk with Bret Baier, the Democratic presidential candidate attracted the highest viewership for “Special Report” since 2020, as indicated by Nielsen’s statistics.

The viewership for the audience exceeded both Harris’ interview on “60 Minutes” (5.7 million viewers on Oct. 10) and her conversation with anchor Dana Bash on CNN, where she was joined by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (6.3 million viewers on Aug. 29).

Many people eagerly awaited Harris’ arrival, given that most Fox News commentators have been critical of her all day.

On Wednesday earlier today, I found myself marveling at the insights shared by Tyrus, a skilled wrestler and frequent guest on Fox News shows like “Gutfeld!” and “The Five.” He posited that Trump, a former president, is poised for one of the most significant electoral vote triumphs in history, despite the majority of polls indicating a close contest between him and Vice President Harris.

On “Special Report”, Harris’ performance during the interview drew harsh criticism from Jesse Watters and Sean Hannity shortly after it ended.

In an attempt to connect with voters uncertain about Trump, the Harris campaign chose to feature on Fox News. This network, known for being the most popular among cable news channels, boasts statistics demonstrating its reach to a significant number of voters who lean Democratic or are politically unaffiliated.

Walz appeared on “Fox News Sunday” for the last two weeks.

Harris has faced criticism from commentators on Fox News and other platforms, as she tends to appear only on media outlets that support her campaign, despite an appearance on “60 Minutes”. Contrastingly, Trump declined a scheduled interview on the same program. Additionally, Trump expressed reluctance to participate in a presidential debate moderated by Baiar and his Fox News colleague Martha MacCallum.

In a forceful manner, Baier challenged Harris about the present government’s immigration policy and urged her to clarify her contrasting views from President Biden, who announced his withdrawal from the reelection bid in July.

On “Special Report,” tense discussions took place, starkly different from a town hall broadcast on Fox News earlier that day featuring Donald Trump. The event held in Georgia on Tuesday was attended by an audience predominantly backing the ex-president, who didn’t encounter any challenging questions during the session.

During their interview, Baier frequently interjected Harris, an action that drew criticism from certain commentators. Later on, the host admitted he was attempting to prevent the vice president from prolonging responses and essentially stalling the discussion.

The Harris campaign consented to a 25-to-30 minute unedited interview that took place at Washington Crossing, PA, and this interview was broadcast in its entirety. Following the airing of the interview, Baier disclosed that Harris’s staff urged him to conclude the discussion once the allotted time had elapsed.

As a dedicated cinephile, I’d say that some folks who are on Harris’ side think her recent interview was a hit because it demonstrated her readiness to face challenging questions head-on, showing her grit and resilience.

In a tweet on platform X, Jon Favreau, the host of “Pod Save America,” stated: “Engaging in argumentative interviews is beneficial.” He further added that appearing on Fox News can be advantageous. However, one needs to be well-prepared (as she was) and remain firm (which she did).

Erick Erickson, a conservative commentator, commented on X that the left is fiercely criticizing Bret Baier for interrupting Kamala Harris and being impolite. This observation alone suggests his perspective. I admire Kamala Harris for appearing on Fox News.
