Fox News hires President Trump’s daughter-in-law as weekend host

In an unusual decision, Fox News has taken on Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, as their weekend host.

Starting February 22nd, “My Perspective with Lara Trump,” a one-hour discussion show centered around opinions, will be added to the weekend prime-time schedule of our news network that leans towards conservative views.

Previously, Lara Trump, who is married to Eric Trump (the president’s son), served as a contributor for Fox News. However, she had to resign from this position in 2021 due to the fact that her father-in-law announced his re-election bid. This is because Fox News has a policy of not employing individuals who are actively involved in government or political campaigns.

Lara Trump currently doesn’t hold an official position in the Trump administration, and it’s unusual for relatives of sitting presidents to secure significant TV hosting roles. Previously, she served as co-chair of the Republican National Committee and represented President Trump during his 2016 campaign as a surrogate.

On Wednesday, Fox News Media Chief Executive Suzanne Scott stated that Lara, an accomplished communicator who excels at reaching her audience, a thriving businesswoman and mother, brings a unique insight into American culture and modern politics, making her an exciting new addition to our weekend programming.

Is a significant shift towards digital platforms imminent? Yet, the question remains – will customers place enough value on the CNN brand to subscribe to its online services?

Fox News consistently offers pro-Trump viewpoints during prime time hours, and it’s unlikely that the President’s daughter-in-law would deviate from this pattern.

The broadcast announced that Lara Trump’s show would center on restoring common sense across America as it enters a new phase of pragmatism. Each episode will offer broad perspective analysis and discussions with influential figures, providing insight into the major news stories shaping the national discourse and impacting families nationwide.

Family members of U.S. Presidents have utilized their well-known surnames for media roles in the past, but typically not during their fathers’ terms in office. For instance, Chelsea Clinton, daughter of President Bill Clinton, worked as a correspondent for NBC News. Similarly, Ron Reagan, son of Ronald Reagan, was a host on MSNBC, served as a special correspondent for ABC News, and even had a brief run with a syndicated talk show.

During his tenure in the U.S. Senate, John McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain, held a co-host position on ABC’s popular talk show “The View.

Lara Trump began her media career as a producer for the CBS syndicated program “Inside Edition.”
