As a follower who has closely watched Neil Cavuto‘s illustrious career spanning over three decades, I can say that his departure from Fox News is a significant loss for journalism and business news. Having battled multiple health issues and still standing tall, Cavuto’s resilience and commitment to truth have always been inspiring.
Neil Cavuto, who was initially brought on board by Fox News in 1996, has decided to part ways with the network, becoming one more instance of economic streamlining that’s sweeping through television journalism.
66-year-old Cavuto is set to bid farewell from the network this Thursday on “Your World,” his long-standing, business-focused daytime show. His contract expires at the end of this month.
According to sources close to the situation, Cavuto decided to depart from the company following an offer of a lower wage in his latest employment agreement, which they were not allowed to speak about openly.
In a statement acknowledging Neil Cavuto’s departure, the company expressed their immense pride over his remarkable 28-year tenure with Fox News Media. His shows have served as a benchmark for business news and have significantly influenced the entire journalism industry.
As a movie critic, I’m here to share my thoughts on the current state of the TV news industry. Notable faces in the journalism world are finding themselves in a challenging position as ratings and income streams dwindle. Stars like Hoda Kotb from NBC’s “Today” and Chris Wallace at CNN have been presented with new contracts offering lower pay, but instead of accepting these deals, they’ve made the tough choice to step away from their respected roles.
I had the privilege of anchoring 12 hours of programming each week on both Fox News and the Fox Business Network, serving as their managing editor as well. It was an honor to be admired by my esteemed colleagues.
Among the limited number of Fox News hosts, Cavuto often expressed criticism towards President-elect Donald Trump, a stance that didn’t always sit well with the network’s large conservative viewer base.

Since Vice President Kamala Harris lost the presidential election against former President Trump on November 5, there has been a significant decrease in viewers for MSNBC, a channel owned by Comcast. Compared to the initial ten months of 2024, the audience has dropped by approximately 46%.
The host seemed to understand the mixed feelings the audience held towards him, stemming from their affection and frustration. Upon his comeback following a lengthy medical absence, he encountered messages from viewers expressing disappointment about his return.
Over the course of his professional life, Cavuto has faced numerous health challenges. He’s been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, had open-heart surgery in 2016, and survived cancer.
He was an original anchor at CNBC when it launched in 1989. He developed a bond with Roger Ailes when he ran the NBCUniversal-owned business news network and followed the executive to Fox News when it launched in 1996.
Neil Cavuto started anchoring the main show for Fox Business Network when it first went live in 2007. During this time, he also hosted a midday program titled “Cavuto: Coast to Coast” along with his regular daily and weekend programs on Fox News.
Cavuto’s position remains vacant as no successor has been officially announced yet. However, it’s expected that the network will choose a permanent replacement from among its current team members.
In 2015, Neil Cavuto took on the role of moderator during the second Republican presidential primary debate that broke viewership records on Fox Business Network.
