Four teams exit the EWC Dota 2 tournament in round 1 of the elimination phase

Today marked the commencement of the elimination stage at the 2025 Esports World Cup Dota 2 tournament, as four competing teams were unfortunately eliminated from the competition.

In the opening phase of the Elimination Round at the 2025 Esports World Cup for Dota 2, we’ll witness some teams preparing to leave. After a grueling Group Stage, the lowest-ranked teams from each group will start their battles. Remaining in the tournament requires overcoming two elimination rounds initially, but the second-placed teams from each group will be spared on the first day.

As we move onto the second round of eliminations at the EWC 2025 Dota 2 competition, four squads have been eliminated so far.

Elimination phase sends four teams out of the EWC 2025

At the EWC, it turned out to be a day of intense best-of-three elimination rounds, as four teams advanced past the initial phase. Remarkably, each series concluded following just two matches, with the triumphant teams demonstrating impressive dominance over their rivals.

In the elimination round, Xtreme Gaming and Execration initiated the action. During the group stage, the Southeast Asian team delivered impressive performances, but they failed to achieve significant victories. Similarly, their series leading to elimination showed a similar pattern. Despite some exceptional plays, they were unable to outmatch XG.

With XG’s victory, they are now facing a challenging sequence against PARIVISION in the second round of the elimination stage.

Shopify Rebellion was the team that left the EWC Dota 2 tournament after being defeated by Team Yandex (formerly known as Cyber Goose). This victory propelled Team Yandex into a match against Gaimin Gladiators in round 2, which could be a significant game during the elimination stage due to its impact.

The Heroic team’s journey ended disappointingly at the hands of Talon Esports. Despite some bright spots, it seemed like the South American squad struggled significantly during game two, almost surrendering without a fight. The lack of competition from the team ultimately led to their defeat. On the other hand, Talon Esports were pleased to advance after a less-than-stellar Group Stage and now face Tundra Esports in the second round of eliminations.

Virtus.pro’s zero wins

Ultimately, Virtus.pro were eliminated from the tournament during the elimination round. This was due to them being the only team that didn’t secure a single win during the group stage. Their match against Team Falcons didn’t go well for them at all. Despite managing to edge out Team Secret and Nigma Galaxy to qualify for the EWC, their tournament performance disintegrated completely, with no victories recorded on their account.

In this scenario, the Falcons find themselves in a pivotal second-round matchup against Natus Vincere, whereas VP disappoint once more in 2025 tournaments with a subpar performance.

12 teams are left in the EWC Dota 2 tournament, but on July 13th, round 2 of eliminations starts. This means that four teams will be eliminated from the competition, while another four will advance to the playoffs. In the playoffs, these eight remaining teams will start their quest to win the champion title at the EWC 2025 Dota 2 tournament.
