Found season 2, episode 8 recap and review: "Missing While Haunted"

As a long-time fan of gripping dramas and someone who has seen more than their fair share of twisted plots, I must say that “Found” has been a rollercoaster ride so far! The intertwining stories and complex characters have kept me on the edge of my seat week after week.

In the world of Found, I’ve always known that Margaret was grappling with a vanished child. The weight of her guilt over his disappearance hung heavy on her shoulders, and every evening found her at the bus station. It wasn’t until season 2, episode 8 that I truly grasped the depth of her remorse in Found.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Found season 2, episode 8.

In the latest installment of “Found”, we encountered a situation where a woman had gone missing. A youthful individual sought assistance from M&A, as they were searching for their mother. They mentioned that a man called Cain seemed to be in pursuit of them.

The situation shifted unexpectedly. What the young girl believed to be factual turned out to be false. She had relatives she wasn’t aware of, but her mother struggled with schizophrenia. Cain didn’t exist, and her mother hadn’t been kidnapped as she thought. Although it served as a central plot point for the episode, it didn’t hold significant importance in the larger context. However, it underscored that Gabi and Trent remain committed to collaborating despite facing numerous obstacles.

Zeke has a new set-up in Found season 2, episode 8

At the close of the last segment, Trent entered Zeke’s residence under a search warrant. In the latest broadcast, Trent disclosed that if not for the timely acquisition and execution of the warrant, Zeke would have been taken into custody and detained.

Perhaps it would be wiser if Trent hadn’t left Zeke in the house. With speedy overnight shipping, Zeke managed to gather more tech equipment and restore everything. Granted, Gabi wasn’t overjoyed about it, but she values Zeke’s expertise. And Zeke is eager to assist. Gabi merely had to ensure during the episode that Trent didn’t realize Zeke was back online—maintaining plausible deniability is crucial for Trent right now, and that’s what Gabi is ensuring.

As a fervent spectator, it’s fascinating to observe the lengths people will go to achieve their ends, often transgressing laws. It’s ironic, isn’t it? The same individuals who are quick to condemn Gabi for her actions with Sir seem to have their own skeletons in the closet. Yet, amidst all this outrage, Gabi persists in her efforts to shield and aid them.

Sir pays Zeke a visit in Found

It’s understood that Sir has a connection to everyone associated with Gabi. Initially, it seemed like Zeke was targeted and poisoned, but it appears that Sir doesn’t intend for anyone to be harmed. Instead, he wants to offer assistance. His initial move is a call to Zeke’s residence.

In a different wording: Due to his intense rage, Zeke leaves the house, which is usually a boundary he doesn’t cross. However, his fury towards Sir overcame his apprehension about going outside. Later on, Sir acknowledges this action and expresses that he merely intends to “aid” everyone.

It appears Sir aims to isolate Gabi, ensuring she no longer needs anyone else. His intention seems to be securing time with Gabi individually, as we’ve seen in flashbacks that Sir has consistently attempted to separate Gabi from any kind of support network throughout their history, so he can gain access to her.

Zeke does tell Gabi about Sir’s visit at the end of the episode. Zeke may have been scared and angry, but he is also smart. He had time to think about things, and he knows that Sir has a plan for everyone. Despite knowing that he could end up locked up, Zeke hacked Trent’s email to get the letter that was sent to Gabi. This led to the cliffhanger ending with Gabi heading back to high school to face Sir.

Although Gabi ventured out on her own, she wasn’t completely alone. Accompanying her was a thoughtful gift from Bella’s mother. The gift just happened to be knuckle dusters, and if the situation called for it, Gabi would respond with force. It was now time for Gabi to confront Sir directly.

Margaret faces her guilt in the Found season 2 fall finale

In the second season finale of “Found,” most of the episode revolved around the character Margaret, who implored Ethan to assist her in erasing a particular memory. Ethan informed everyone that Margaret claimed it was effective, but subsequently vanished from contact, or went off the grid. Additionally, she failed to keep their scheduled lunch meeting with Taylor, her daughter.

It’s clear that Taylor is concerned about her mother, given the circumstances. She had anticipated that today would be challenging for Margaret, as it’s Jamie’s birthday. This is the reason behind Taylor’s desire to meet with her mom, and also the cause of her current anxiety.

Indeed, Margaret had intended to bring an end to things. The memories that haunted her were from the day her son, Jamie, mysteriously vanished. On that day, they were both at the bus station. All Margaret yearned for was a brief moment of tranquility, and so she asked Jamie to sit at the far end of the benches and play with his train set. When her gaze returned from solving her crossword puzzle, Jamie was nowhere to be found. Those five minutes stretched into an eternity.

Dahn explains to Margaret that desiring a brief moment of tranquility doesn’t label her as an inadequate parent; it makes her human. Often, we tend to criticize mothers excessively for needing some respite from their children. It can be simple to overlook the fact that mothers are individuals with their own frailties, and there are instances when we require a brief moment to collect our thoughts. Sitting at the end of a row of seats would have been acceptable. There weren’t many people obstructing Margaret’s view of Jamie being escorted away, so it shouldn’t have raised suspicion.

It’s not surprising that Margaret spends each night at the bus station with the same meal, as it was the one she had on the day Jamie disappeared. She believes that if Jamie ran away, he might return to see her there and come back home. Her fixation on this routine now seems far more understandable than before.

As a gamer speaking directly, I managed to reach Margaret, and I let her know in no uncertain terms that if she decided to step into the water and leave us all, I’d be right there with her. The truth is, I need Margaret just as much as she needs the rest of us. In the end, it was fantastic to see Margaret getting the mental health support she deserves, a relief for everyone involved.

For Margaret, what transpires from here could lead to a healthier approach in dealing with her feelings of guilt. Additionally, there’s potential for her to articulate more clearly her fixation to others. The upcoming episodes promise an engaging and thought-provoking continuation.

In general, standalone episodes are becoming secondary plots within the show’s current seasons. There seems to be less emphasis on the team’s collaboration and their interactions compared to the first season. Yet, as we delve deeper into the characters of the M&A team, I find myself growing increasingly curious about their pasts and the intricate links they share with Gabi.

Found returns on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up on the series so far on Peacock.
