Fortune Feimster and her spouse of five years, Jacquelyn “Jax” Smith, have announced their separation, as shared by both parties on their social media accounts this week.
In a joint announcement on their Instagrams, they expressed that after much contemplation, they’ve chosen to part ways in their marriage. They’ve been apart for some time now due to challenging health issues within their respective families, making this decision neither immediate nor easy.

Contrary to the impression that Chelsea Handler might be easing up at age 50, she’s actually gearing up for more! On Tuesday, she’s set to unveil her third Netflix comedy special titled ‘The Feeling.’ Interestingly, this comedic performance shares similar themes with her recently published seventh book, ‘I’ll Have What She’s Having.’
They went on saying, “Although it’s hard to let go of this part of our journey, we hope only the best for one another as we venture ahead. We’ve spent a decade together, and there is plenty to rejoice in about that and many memories we will cherish.
“The Mindy Project” actor, a Groundlings veteran, requested privacy in the wake of the news.
Initially, Smith was a kindergarten teacher, but later she became part of Feimster’s creative team, overseeing the production of three comedy specials: “Sweet & Salty” (2020), “Good Fortune” (2022), and “Crushing It” (2024). They first encountered each other at a Pride event in Chicago back in 2015. After maintaining a long-distance relationship for several years, they got engaged in 2018 and eventually tied the knot during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic in a small, intimate ceremony.
The women’s families attended the wedding via Zoom.

The comic explains how her background as a former entertainment journalist and improvisational actor has significantly influenced her present triumphs in stand-up comedy and television.
The 44-year-old comedian expressed to People in October 2022 that they and their partner Jax want to be seen as ordinary, just like any other couple. While they are a gay couple, their experiences aren’t drastically different from those of others. They believe that one doesn’t need to identify as gay to understand or connect with their engagement story.
Divorce? Definitely — albeit unfortunately — relatable.
Feimster owes the start of her career as a writer, performer, and stand-up comedian to Chelsea Handler. She was acknowledged as a writer for nearly 600 episodes of “Chelsea Lately” from 2011 to 2014.
In an interview with The Times in 2023, Feimster stated, “She was featuring individuals on television whom others weren’t showcasing, and she didn’t seem to mind if they didn’t conform to traditional TV standards. … She was the first one to say ‘yes’ when everyone else was saying ‘no.’
