Fortnite now requires players be level 350 or higher to compete in cash prize tournaments

As a seasoned Fortnite gamer with years of battle royale experience under my belt, I can wholeheartedly say that this new level requirement for cash prize tournaments is a game-changer. I’ve seen firsthand how smurfing has skewed the competitive landscape, and this move by Epic Games is a much-needed step towards fairness and equality in the community.

As a gamer, I’ll need to reach a certain level first before I can participate in any tournament offering cash prizes.

After publishing Chapter 5 of Season 4, Fortnite now mandates that players aiming to participate in cash tournament competitions must reach a player level of 350 or above. This change benefits the competitive gaming community by minimizing the presence of “smurf” accounts in major tournaments.

To ensure a level playing field and maintain fairness in competitions, this fresh rule aims to prevent players from exploiting by artificially reducing their skill levels (known as “smurfing”). In simpler terms, smurfing is the practice of creating a less-skilled account to compete against weaker opponents than usual.

Enforcing that players must reach level 350 or beyond discourages individuals from creating a fresh account close to a tournament, as they won’t be able to compete in the beginner brackets.

For quite some time, Fortnite has faced a significant issue. Raising the required skill level for competition won’t just eliminate smurfing, but it will also ensure that future competitions remain challenging and intense.

Actually, it’s not about your level at the end of each season; rather, it’s the total sum of levels you accumulate across all seasons. Given that you’ve only been playing for a year or two, chances are you’ll have surpassed level 350 already.

Will other Fortnite tournaments require players to be at level 350?

For players who are casual competitors primarily interested in participating in skin cups and similar events, there’s no need to achieve level 350 for competition eligibility. Fortunately, Fortnite has set up tournaments without cash prizes that require participants to only attain level 50.

In contrast to cash prize competitions, this offers a less stringent condition, making it possible for casual gamers to join in the competition as well.
