Fortnite is back on Android in the US after a five-year absence! Epic Games just announced the return of the popular battle royale game, following its comeback to iOS in May. The game had been removed from both Google and Android app stores in 2020 due to a legal dispute, but a recent court ruling allowed its re-release.

Fortnite is back for mobile players with all of its content

Fortnite is back, and I’m thrilled! It was removed in 2020 after Epic Games created its own way for players to pay directly, taking a 30% cut of the profits. This caused a big disagreement with app stores and resulted in lengthy court battles.

There are lots of great things happening this month, and we’re excited to announce that our app is now available on Google Play in the U.S.! You can also find us on these platforms:

In 2023, Epic Games took legal action against Google, claiming Google had created a monopoly with the Google Play Store. During the court case, it was revealed that Google had previously explored the possibility of buying Epic Games back in 2018. Google ultimately lost the case and was required to pay $700 million. Following this, Epic requested a court order in 2024 to force changes to Google’s policies, aiming to give more flexibility to app stores other than Google Play.

Epic Games announced on X that Fortnite is now available on the Google Play Store in the U.S. This follows Google’s agreement to comply with a recent court order. Epic Games also stated they are collaborating with Google to get court approval for their settlement agreement.

Epic Games CEO also shared his vision while thanking Google

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced the game will remain available on the Epic Games Store for Android devices globally. He expressed gratitude to Google for their support and described this as the start of a more open and innovative era for mobile gaming. I’m really excited about the possibilities this opens up.

I’ve moved on to other games now, but I used to be a huge Fortnite player and I remember having to buy data packs to keep the game updated. I’m really excited to see it back on mobile, especially after its return to iOS in Australia and the European Union through the Epic Games Store and AltStore.

Fortnite is back on Android in the US! You can download and play it now through the Google Play Store. It’s also still available for iPhone and iPad users on the App Store.
