Fortnite ends a nearly five-year iOS exile with US App Store return

Story Highlights

  • Fortnite returns to the iOS App Store in the US, now available for iPhones and iPads.
  • The game also relaunches in the EU via the Epic Games Store and AltStore.
  • Epic accused Apple of violating a court injunction just last week by blocking the game’s submission.

Following approximately five years of court battles and app suspensions, Fortnite has been reinstated on the US Apple Store. Epic Games announced on Wednesday that the popular battle royale game is now accessible for download once more on iPhones and iPads.

Additionally, Fortnite has re-entered the European Union through both the Epic Games Store and AltStore, thanks to recent modifications in regulations under the Digital Markets Act. This action was taken after Apple refused to approve the submission of Fortnite by Epic Games on iOS within the United States.

Fortnite’s return marks a major victory for Epic Games and mobile players

Last week, Epic accused Apple of defying a court order by declining to approve an update and suggested that the company was retaliating due to their ongoing legal disputes over App Store policies. The release of Fortnite, initially planned for the second week of May 2025 following the court decision on App Store fees, was now at stake.

Fortnite has returned to the American App Store, compatible with iPhones and iPads. Additionally, it’s available on the Epic Games Store and AltStore across Europe! Keep an eye out for its appearance in search results soon!

In response to Fortnite’s comeback in the EU, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney expressed gratitude towards those who backed their long-standing struggle. He stated, “A big thank you to everyone who initially supported Apple’s stance, but later shifted to our side, championing app developer rights and consumer rights.” This message was shared via his Twitter account.

Despite this decision not definitively resolving the ongoing dispute between Epic and Apple, it undeniably represents a substantial victory for Epic Games and iOS gamers. This triumph comes after the game was taken down in 2020, following Epic’s move to challenge Apple’s 30% fee on in-app transactions.

Play the top-ranked game right away from the Apple App Store in the United States. Ensure your device has at least 4GB of RAM to avoid any compatibility issues that may cause a warning message during gameplay.
