Formula 1: Way-too-early Cadillac target leaving current team?
As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the virtual racetracks of the world, I can confidently say that Jak Crawford’s journey from junior categories to Formula 1 is shaping up to be an exhilarating ride. His meteoric rise through the ranks, coupled with his American background, has piqued the interest of many, including the yet-to-debut Andretti-owned team and the soon-to-be Cadillac-General Motors F1 team.
Since whispers of an Andretti-led F1 squad emerged, I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed that Jak Crawford could be one of their drivers. His impressive performance in lower leagues has caught everyone’s attention, and given his nationality, there’s a strong possibility he’ll get the nod – being American is definitely an advantage!
The prospect of the Cadillac-General Motors F1 team debuting in 2026 has brought up 19-year-old Crawford as a strong contender for their roster. Following an exceptional year in Formula 2, where he made it to the podium six times, it seems only a matter of patience until Crawford secures a permanent position in F1.
It’s been officially announced that an American racer will race for DAMS Lucas Oil in Formula 2 next year (2025). Given the moves of other drivers, such as Gabriel Bortoleto going to Sauber in Formula 1 and Isack Hadjar likely moving up with RB, this driver is expected to be a strong contender for the championship. Moreover, Paul Aron is set to depart from Formula 2 to take on a reserve driver role at Alpine in Formula 1.
Crawford, however, will never drive for Aston Martin.
Currently, Crawford is part of Aston Martin’s developing team. Yet, Lawrence Stroll aims to bring in prominent figures to the squad, which is why they have recruited Fernando Alonso and Adrian Newey.
Additionally, there’s chatter suggesting that either Max Verstappen or George Russell could be part of our team as early as 2026. Furthermore, it’s important to note that Lance Stroll will continue driving for us unless he decides otherwise, regardless of his performance.
During the 2025 season of Formula 2, Crawford should aim to place within the top three and make the most of any additional practice sessions or testing assignments offered by Aston Martin. He demonstrated strong performance during the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, even though he was slightly slower than the main pace. Notably, he was faster than Felipe Drugovich, who is Aston Martin’s reserve driver.
2026 finds Crawford aiming for a spot in Formula 1, potentially serving as the foundation for Cadillac’s inaugural driver roster. Given his prospects, Crawford seems to have a stronger chance of making it with Cadillac than Aston Martin. As long as Cadillac continues to express interest in him, it’s likely that his agreement with Formula 1’s newest team will grow more promising over time.
