Formula 1: Valtteri Bottas talks whiskey sponsor’s brand-new release
As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for the thrill of high-speed racing and a soft spot for fine spirits, I must say that the partnership between Valtteri Bottas and WhistlePig Whiskey is an exciting blend of two worlds I hold dear. The release of the limited edition WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye: Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber Single Barrel, finished in Bottas’ own OΛTH Gin barrels and bottled at 100.77 proof, is a testament to the synergy between these two dynamic entities.
The Sauber Formula 1 team collaborated with WhistlePig Whiskey to unveil a special, limited-edition whiskey called WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye: Stake F1 Team Edition – Single Barrel.
The completion of the release (or “Finnishing”, as the company calls it) has taken place in Valtteri Bottas’ OΛTH Gin barrels and was bottled at 100.77 proof, echoing the 35-year-old Finnish driver’s car number on the racetrack.
Though the racer who’s clinched victory ten times on the track is swift, the crafting of whiskey moves at a leisurely pace. In a satirical TED Talk-inspired presentation he dubbed “BO Talks”, he delved deeply into this process.
Bottas talks whiskey, WhistlePig
Bottas shared with Beyond the Flag that he’s long admired exceptional whiskeys and positive energy. For quite some time, WhistlePig has caught his attention.
Since 2022, we’ve been collaborating with them, as they officially joined our team as the whiskey sponsor. This partnership has flourished and expanded over time. Interestingly, I had a chance to tour their farm in Vermont last June, which was an engaging, interactive adventure.
Bottas hadn’t previously been aware of just how long the whiskey-making process took.
He shared that he found something unexpected about whiskey, which truly caught him off guard. While he’s accustomed to moving quickly on the track, he realized that exceptional things often need time to mature. This intriguing aspect of whiskey production sparked his curiosity so much that he established ‘BO Talks’ as a platform to share his thoughts about the complex craft. Collaborating with WhistlePig on this spoof was an enjoyable and unique adventure.
Bottas has already had the chance to sample the brand’s new product.
He shared that everyone has their own way to appreciate it, but he personally likes it in The WhistlePig Highball. He’s been encouraging his followers to savor each sip as they watch him speed by. He described it as an extraordinary blend with Rye, and you can detect hints of his OΛTH Gin, as well as the flavors of red apple, spruce, and cinnamon.
