Formula 1: United States Grand Prix not being broadcast on ESPN

As a hardcore Formula 1 fan with years of dedication under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia as we gear up for the US Grand Prix this Sunday on ABC. It seems like an eternity since we last saw an F1 race on this network back in June during the Canadian Grand Prix.

On a Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Grand Prix taking place at Circuit of the Americas serves as the second of three American races in the 2024 Formula 1 schedule, making it the 19th race out of an unprecedented 24 races for the season.

Over the past nine racing seasons, I’ve noticed that eight out of the last nine events were broadcasted on ESPN. Interestingly, the initial nine races were split between ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC, with three each.

Over the past nine races I’ve been following, only one didn’t air on ESPN – it was the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit, and I caught it on ESPN2 way back in early July.

United States Grand Prix not being shown on ESPN

This coming Sunday, we’ve got an exciting 56-lap race scheduled on a 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.515-kilometer) road course located in Austin, Texas. It will be the first Formula One race broadcasted on ABC in approximately four and a half months.

The latest Formula 1 race broadcasted on ABC was not just any ordinary race, but it was also the last one held in North America – specifically, the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve which took place in early June.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got some exciting news! ABC is set to host five different races in the 2024 lineup. After this weekend, there’s only one more race left on their schedule for this season – it’s next Sunday afternoon at the Mexico City Grand Prix, held at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Can’t wait!

For the 2024 schedule, ESPN2 will broadcast seven races, followed by showing three of the last four races of the season. The remaining one, the third and final United States race, the Las Vegas Grand Prix at the Las Vegas Strip Street Circuit, is set to air on ESPN on Sunday, November 24th.

In the U.S., regardless if a race is broadcasted on ESPN, ESPN2, or ABC, Mercedes-Benz provides advertisement-free coverage of the same race that’s aired on Sky Sports.

Don’t miss out on ABC at 2:55 p.m. Eastern Time this coming Sunday, October 20th, for the live transmission of the United States Grand Prix from Circuit of the Americas. Max Verstappen, a three-time consecutive world champion driving for Red Bull, has won this race in each of his first three title-winning seasons.
