As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for Formula 1 races, I can hardly contain my excitement for this year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix! With its unique blend of high-speed action and the dazzling lights of Sin City, it’s like a perfect fusion of my two favorite passions.
In the whirlwind of racing fever sweeping across America last year, I found myself getting excited about the addition of an extra Formula 1 event on our shores – none other than the Las Vegas Grand Prix at the brand-new Las Vegas Strip Circuit.
For the first time since the 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix, this competition took place in Las Vegas, Nevada. Moreover, it was the event’s initial Saturday race (local time) since the Grand Prix of South Africa at Kyalami Circuit back in 1985.
This weekend, I’ll be back on the track for another high-speed, 50-lap challenge around the intricate 14-corner, 3.8-mile (6.116-kilometer) temporary street course. But it’s not just any Saturday race; it’s the fourth one on a Saturday since 1985. Let’s see if I can make history again!
And all three of the others have been contested within the last 12 months.
To clarify, three significant events occurred within a four-race period. The season ended with the traditional Sunday race at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix held at the Yas Marina Circuit, following last year’s Las Vegas Grand Prix. However, the 2024 season kicked off with two consecutive races on Saturdays.
Instead of taking place on Sunday, March 10, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix at Jeddah Corniche Circuit was held a day earlier, on Saturday, March 9, due to Ramadan. Consequently, Formula 1 advanced the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix as well.
The Bahrain Grand Prix occurred at Bahrain International Circuit on Saturday, March 2, rather than Sunday, March 3. Moving it to the latter day would have given one fewer day for travel and preparation before the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. However, this was not considered practical, particularly as the season was set to break a record with 24 races starting from then.
