Formula 1 driver not named Lewis Hamilton will regret 2025 team change

As a veteran gamer who’s seen more racing seasons than I can count on my fingers, I’ve grown accustomed to twists and turns that leave me scratching my head. Nico Hulkenberg’s move from Haas to Sauber for 2025 is one such twist that feels like a rollercoaster ride without the thrill.

Following his departure from the Formula 1 grid in 2019, Nico Hulkenberg has made an impressive comeback. After spending three seasons on the sidelines with Racing Point/Aston Martin, this German driver was given another opportunity in Formula 1 with Haas last year. Since then, his performance has been widely regarded as a revitalization of his career.

As a devoted F1 enthusiast, I can’t help but share some exciting news about one of my favorite drivers, the talented Nico Hulkenberg. It appears that more than half of the grid is facing contract renewals by year-end, but Hulkenberg has already taken charge of his Formula 1 destiny. In an intriguing turn of events, he’s all set to join Sauber next season. Here’s the twist: Sauber will reportedly transform into Audi by 2026, which adds a new layer of anticipation to Hulkenberg’s move. I, for one, can hardly wait!

There’s a great deal of anticipation for Audi joining the sport, but there are doubts about their readiness, which seems to be the reason behind Carlos Sainz Jr.’s hesitation to join the German team, despite having strong ties with them since 2023.

Hulkenberg will feel some regret (eventually)

Haas is now the fifth quickest team on the track this season following a string of enhancements, and Nico Hülkenberg was queried regarding his upcoming shift to Sauber. He firmly expressed that he holds no remorse over his choice and is completely committed to the venture.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, under the leadership of Ayao Komatsu, Haas is making a strong comeback, earning respect from key figures in the community who had grown weary due to previous setbacks under Guenther Steiner. The team’s alliance with Toyota Gazoo Racing promises some exciting advancements in testing and development, taking us even further on the racing circuit.

It’s evident that Hulkenberg has been performing exceptionally well in the Haas this season, suggesting that the car suits him perfectly. This strong performance provides Haas with an excellent foundation for further improving their vehicle, particularly as they look towards 2025 and beyond.

Hulkenberg just won’t get to be a part of that.

Looking back now, it appears his decision to join Sauber may have been hasty, considering their subpar performance this racing season. Given their driver lineup featuring Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou, Sauber has yet to score any points, suggesting they might be contending for one of the least successful seasons in Formula 1 history for a constructor.

It’s yet to be seen if Audi can make a comeback when they start working on their 2026 car. Meanwhile, Hulkenberg might find himself trailing the competition next season, while Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman are expected to compete for points with Haas in every race weekend.
