Formula 1: Daniel Ricciardo reveals surprising possible landing spot
As a long-time Formula 1 enthusiast, I must confess that watching Daniel Ricciardo‘s emotional journey this weekend at Singapore was both heartbreaking and exhilarating. The Aussie driver, known for his infectious charm and electrifying racing skills, has been an integral part of our motorsport family for years.
Prior to the Singapore Grand Prix over the weekend, speculation emerged about Daniel Ricciardo’s future not just with Red Bull Racing, but in Formula 1 altogether. It seems that the Australian driver is set to be let go before the U.S. Grand Prix next month, with Liam Lawson stepping into his place instead. Notably, Lawson had previously filled in for Ricciardo when he was injured last season, but this time the change would be permanent.
As the race weekend approached, feelings ran deep since both Ricciardo and RB regarded it as his last Formula One Grand Prix. The 35-year-old cherished each second, and post-race conversations left him with moist eyes.
Regardless of the unknown details about his upcoming plans, Red Bull extended a show of respect to the Australian racer by presenting him with an honor guard as he re-entered the Red Bull hospitality suite with his future still in question. Throughout the entire weekend, fans were unwavering in their support for Ricciardo, as he was chosen as Driver of the Day and also broke the record for the fastest lap at Marina Bay Street Circuit during the final laps of the race.
Formula 1’s fan-favorite may make a dream move
From childhood, Daniel Ricciardo has been an avid fan of NASCAR, and recently expressed his desire to join the American racing scene and participate in the iconic Daytona 500 event.
IndyCar could potentially be an option for the Australian, given his desire to remain in a competitive racing series next season. Notably, Daniel Ricciardo wouldn’t be the first Formula 1 driver to make such a transition; he’d be joining the ranks of drivers like Romain Grosjean, Fernando Alonso, and Marcus Ericsson, who have already made the move.
Daniel Ricciardo is widely recognized in the automotive racing sphere not just for his exceptional driving skills, but also for his captivating off-track persona. Many teams would undoubtedly seek out Ricciardo, recognizing him not only as an excellent racer but also as a valuable resource for team marketing efforts.
Although Ricciardo has hinted at his potential departure from Formula 1 after the Singapore Grand Prix, there’s been no formal confirmation about his future yet. It appears that Red Bull and their sponsors are unclear about the current status of the situation, as they remain silent. Given that only six races are left in the 2024 schedule, it’s possible that Ricciardo could see out the remainder of the season with Red Bull.
