Formula 1 changes Belgian Grand Prix results just hours after the race
As a die-hard Formula 1 fan, I was absolutely ecstatic when George Russell seemed to secure his second win of the 2024 season during the Belgian Grand Prix at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Russell started in sixth place on the grid and managed to make it to the end on just one pit stop, holding off teammate Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri along the way.
At the beginning, it seemed like Mercedes’ George Russell had earned his second victory in the 2024 Formula 1 series and the third triumph of his career.
At the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday, held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps with its 19 turns and a total length of 4.352 miles (7.004 kilometers), Russell began the race from sixth position on the starting grid. He finished the grueling 44-lap event without making any pit stops.
During the race, Russell managed to keep both teammate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri behind him to claim victory. However, post-race investigations uncovered that Russell’s vehicle weighed less than the minimum requirement, leading to his disqualification.
George Russell disqualified
As a seasoned Formula One fan with years of dedication to this thrilling sport, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment and disbelief when hearing about the recent disqualification of George Russell at the Belgian Grand Prix. The race had been an exhilarating one, filled with twists and turns, and Russell’s victory was a shining moment for him and his fans. But alas, the joy was short-lived as news broke that he had been stripped of the win and the accompanying 25 points.
As a seasoned Formula 1 fan with years of following the sport and its legendary drivers, I can’t help but feel awe-struck by Lewis Hamilton’s recent achievement. His victory in the latest race marks his second win this month, making it a sweet comeback after an agonizing wait since December 2021. With this triumph, he has now amassed an impressive total of 105 career victories.
Charle Leclerc of Ferrari moved up to third position, while Verstappen from Red Bull took over fourth place, and Norris of McLaren advanced to fifth.
The positions of Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari), Sergio Perez (Red Bull), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Esteban Ocon (Alpine), and Daniel Ricciardo (RB) were advanced to sixth through tenth place in the scoring.
The summer recess in Formula 1 racing has begun, with the upcoming event being the Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort. Broadcast live on ESPN starting at 8:55 a.m. ET on August 25, Sunday, this is the 15th race out of an unprecedented 24 races scheduled for this year.
