Formula 1: Abu Dhabi Grand Prix no longer being broadcast on ESPN2

As a seasoned gamer of Formula 1 races, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and anticipation as we approach the grand finale of the record-breaking 24-race 2024 season this Sunday at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The rollercoaster ride that has been this season, with its twists, turns, and unexpected shifts, has kept me on the edge of my seat.

2024’s groundbreaking 24-race Formula 1 season, a record breaker, is set to conclude this coming Sunday at the Yas Marina Circuit during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The final leg of ABC’s five-race series concluded approximately a month back, taking place on October 27th at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.

Originally, it was believed that ESPN’s 12-race schedule would conclude two weeks back, with the Las Vegas Grand Prix taking place at the Las Vegas Strip Street Circuit on November 24th (Sunday).

Originally, ESPN2’s seven-race lineup included three of the season’s final four races, including the last two. However, a last-minute adjustment moved this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from ESPN2 to ESPN. As a result, ESPN2’s schedule ended with last Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail International Circuit.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix not being shown on ESPN2

This upcoming Sunday’s Formula 1 race at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, which spans 58 laps over a 16-turn, 3.281-mile (5.28-kilometer) track, will be broadcast on ESPN. As a result, ESPN will now cover 13 races this season, an addition to the initially planned 12.

It’s noteworthy to point out that regardless of where a race airs, be it ESPN, ESPN2, or ABC, American viewers receive the same live broadcast as Sky Sports offers. This uninterrupted coverage is sponsor-exclusively provided by Mercedes-Benz.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season! Since 2018, ESPN, ESPN2, and ABC have been broadcasting these high-octane races in the U.S., with the deal set to continue through the 2025 season. The upcoming season is set to kick off on March 16th at the Albert Park Circuit with the Australian Grand Prix, marking a record-tying 24 races. Although the TV schedule for each race hasn’t been completely finalized yet, I can hardly wait to tune in!

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, airing live on ESPN2 from Yas Marina Circuit this coming Sunday, December 8th at 7:55 a.m. ET, is not to be missed! This is the only track on this year’s schedule where four-time world champion Max Verstappen has been the reigning race winner for four consecutive years.
