As a seasoned Formula 1 enthusiast with a passion for the sport that spans over three decades, I can hardly contain my excitement for this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort! The last time we saw action was a four-week break, but it feels like an eternity since we witnessed the thrilling races of this legendary circuit.
Following a four-week hiatus, Formula 1 will be back in action this coming Sunday for race number fifteen out of an unprecedented twenty-four races on the 2024 schedule. This event will take place at Circuit Zandvoort, which is Max Verstappen of Red Bull’s designated home track, having won the title three times consecutively.
2020 marked my return to Zandvoort on the Formula 1 calendar for the first time since ’85, but alas, the pandemic forced us all to delay our reunion that year. Fast forward to 2021, though, and it’s been my annual racing ground ever since.
For the past three years, it was always the Dutch racer who took the pole position and went on to claim victory during the race, ultimately earning the world championship title. On every occasion, the 14-turn, approximately 2.642-mile (4.252-kilometer) road course in Zandvoort, Netherlands consistently delivered some of the most thrilling and captivating races of each season.
With seven distinct champions hailing from four diverse teams so far this season, and Max Verstappen leading the pack with an impressive seven wins, the upcoming race promises to maintain its excitement level.
In more recent times at Zandvoort, the title wasn’t claimed by Max Verstappen; instead, it was another triple crown winner – Niki Lauda who triumphed there 39 years back.
