Formula 1: 2024 COTA sprint qualifying updates, full starting lineup

As a die-hard F1 enthusiast with decades of races under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for this weekend’s back-to-back GPs at COTA! It’s been a long wait since the last sprint race, and I must admit, the anticipation is killing me.

Approximately four months have passed since Formula 1 held a sprint race, and it has been close to a month since they participated in any racing event. This weekend at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) marks the start of a continuous three-weekend stretch featuring Formula 1 Grand Prix races.

A sprint race is approximately one-quarter the distance of a Grand Prix. The United States Grand Prix, taking place this Sunday, will consist of 56 laps on a 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.515-kilometer) track in Austin, Texas. Therefore, the sprint race will be held over 19 laps.

Last year marked the inaugural sprint race at COTA, with Max Verstappen of Red Bull securing the victory from the starting position. The upcoming sprint race this year represents its fourth out of six scheduled races, all part of an exceptional calendar featuring a record-breaking 24 Grand Prix events.
