Formula 1: 2024 COTA qualifying updates, full starting lineup
As a seasoned gamer who’s been glued to my screen for countless F1 races, I can hardly contain my excitement for this weekend’s United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas! The thrill of the race, the strategic maneuvers, and the adrenaline rush are unparalleled.
After a four-week autumn hiatus, Circuit of the Americas (COTA) will be hosting the United States Grand Prix this coming Sunday afternoon. This event marks the start of the second set of three consecutive races on the unprecedented 24-race calendar for the 2024 Formula 1 season.
On Sunday, the race is set to take place as a 56-lap event on a 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.515-kilometer) road circuit located in Austin, Texas. The United States Grand Prix, an official Formula 1 event, has been hosted at this venue since the year 2012, with the exception of 2020 when Formula 1 did not make a stop in the country.
In no previous editions of the race did a driver who began outside the front row take victory, with half the winners starting from pole and the other half starting in second position on the grid. However, last year saw an exception to this trend when Red Bull’s Max Verstappen claimed victory despite starting sixth on the grid.
At the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Verstappen has managed to secure his first three world championships, each time triumphing. Interestingly, he’s done this from three distinct starting positions on the grid. In 2021, he won from pole position, in 2022 he clinched victory from second place, and surprisingly, he won last year from a disappointing sixth position on the track.
In the recent races held in 2022 and 2023, this particular race stood out for having the most lead changes among all scheduled races. Despite starting positions on the front row usually providing an advantage, this track encourages overtaking significantly more than most other Formula 1 tracks currently on the schedule.
