Formula 1: 2024 Abu Dhabi qualifying updates, full starting lineup

As a die-hard F1 enthusiast with over two decades of watching races under my belt, I can confidently say that the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is shaping up to be a spectacle not to be missed! The Yas Marina Circuit, with its 58 laps and 16 turns, has always been a track where qualifying is crucial. And with Max Verstappen’s four consecutive wins there since 2020, it’s clear that Red Bull is the team to beat.

2024’s extraordinary 24-race Formula 1 season, which has made history, is set to conclude this coming Sunday at the Yas Marina Circuit, with the running of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

On Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, this coming Sunday’s race will cover a distance of approximately 3.281 miles (or 5.28 kilometers) over a 16-turn road course, with the competition lasting for about 58 laps.

Despite numerous modifications, such as eliminating the chicane prior to present-day turn 5 for enhanced overtaking possibilities, Yas Marina Circuit still emphasizes the significance of qualifying more than most other tracks.

Since Lewis Hamilton took the victory from second position in 2014, no other driver has clinched the race from any starting spot other than pole. Similarly, ever since Kimi Raikkonen demonstrated his skills and triumphed from fourth place in 2012, no driver has won the race if they weren’t in one of the top three starting positions.

2024’s Yas Marina Circuit is the sole track where Max Verstappen, Red Bull’s driver, has clinched a victory every year since 2020. He is the four-time consecutive winner of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and his most memorable win was in 2021 when he overtook Hamilton on the final lap at turn five, earning him his inaugural world championship title.
