As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Stirling Mortlock’s journey from Sydney’s north shore to the picturesque Southern Highlands is a testament to the allure of a ‘tree-change.’ The former Wallabies captain and his wife Caroline have transformed a fixer-upper into a charming country retreat, complete with an entertainment deck, second patio, and a gourmet kitchen.

Rugby champ Stirling Mortlock is set to put his country home in NSW under the hammer.

A five-bedroom, two-bathroom house situated in Bowral is up for auction, with an estimated selling price between 2.25 and 2.25 million dollars.

The former Wallabies captain and his wife Caroline bought the charming property in the Southern Highlands as a fixer-upper in 2018 for a reported $1.38million.

Back in the very same year that I sold my grand abode on Sydney’s bustling north shore for a cool $3.8 million (as per the Wentworth Courier), my beloved and I decided it was time for a change, a shift towards tranquility and nature. And so, we embraced the allure of a serene rural retreat, a decision that has transformed our lives in ways words simply cannot capture.

The home is situated in Burradoo, a suburb of Bowral, which is about 120km from Sydney.

They carried out substantial updates on the 2009-built four-bedroom home, transforming its initial design.

Improvements included adding an extra bedroom and creating a new open-plan layout.

Key aspects of this property include an outdoor entertainment area reachable from the kitchen, along with another patio that seamlessly connects to the formal dining room.

The spacious master suite takes up a whole corner within the large house, boasting a lavish private bathroom with an attached shower area, as well as two ample walk-in closets.

The property features a gourmet kitchen, ducted climate control, and two 5,000-litre water tanks.

Additionally, the Mortlocks have added hedges, a fruit orchard, and decorative trees across their 2,466 square meter property.

As reported by the Wentworth Courier, the pair have recently decided to relocate to Melbourne, as Mortlock has established a branch of his company, XV Capital – a sports technology investment firm, there.

The couple, who have three children, originally bought the property in Burradoo to be near Caroline’s family.

After selling their spacious house in Pymble, which they had bought for approximately $2.4 million while Stirling Mortlock was thriving in his rugby union career, the Mortlock family underwent a substantial shift in their living style.

Their beautiful two-level home was constructed with double brick and slab materials.

Remarkable aspects encompassed an awe-inspiring saltwater pool, a regulation-size tennis court, and a meticulously designed garden with lush landscaping.

Additionally, there was a guest bedroom.

47-year-old Mortlock rose to prominence as a successful rugby union player beginning in 1998, amassing more than 480 points throughout his tenure with the Australian national team, the Wallabies.

He also accumulated over 1,000 points in Super Rugby before retiring in 2012.
