Jordan Shipley, a former college All-American football player and well-known host on the Outdoors Channel, is critically injured after an accident on his Texas ranch, according to a family statement.
Forty-year-old Steve Shipley was reported to be in stable condition after being hospitalized in Austin Tuesday night. Authorities say a piece of machinery he was using near Burnet, Texas, caught fire, causing him to suffer serious burns.
After playing in the NFL for three seasons, Shipley retired unexpectedly in 2012 due to ongoing problems with concussions and his knees. He soon began pursuing his love of deer hunting on television, co-hosting shows like “The Bucks of Tecomate” and “Tecomate Whitetail Nation.”
When Shipley retired at 27, he explained it wasn’t a difficult decision. He’d always had strong interests outside of football – particularly in the outdoors – and never defined himself solely as an athlete. While he worked incredibly hard and enjoyed his time playing, he was eager to pursue other opportunities and felt positive about his future.
While he had a good first year with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010, catching 52 passes for 600 yards and three touchdowns, he’s most famous for his impressive college career at the University of Texas.

Sports
College football powerhouses Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama have been eliminated from the playoffs, alongside Texas Tech. Meanwhile, teams like Indiana, Ole Miss, Miami, and Oregon are still in contention.
From 2006 to 2009, Shipley was a standout player as both a receiver and a kick returner. In 2009, he had a record-breaking season with 116 catches for 1,489 yards. He still holds the team record for total receptions with 248 and is second all-time in receiving yards with 3,191, only behind Roy Williams. Adding to his impact, Shipley returned four punts or kickoffs for touchdowns.
Drafted by the Bengals in the third round, he quickly became a fan favorite in Cincinnati, with countless fans proudly wearing his number 11 jersey. Unfortunately, a severe knee injury early in the 2011 season significantly impacted his career. He briefly played for Tampa Bay and Jacksonville before ultimately retiring from the sport.
Jordan’s family reports he was using a machine on his ranch when it unexpectedly caught fire. He was able to get away from the machine, but suffered serious burns while doing so. He was then flown by helicopter to a hospital in Austin for treatment.
According to a statement, he managed to reach a ranch worker who drove him to a nearby hospital. He was then airlifted to Austin, where he is currently in critical but stable condition.
Jordan Shipley’s brother, Jaxon Shipley, a former wide receiver for the University of Texas, has asked for prayers for his brother’s recovery. In a statement on Instagram, Jaxon, 33, said Jordan’s life was saved today thanks to God and his strong will to live. He asked for prayers for a full recovery without complications, believing in the power of prayer to help Jordan through this difficult time.
