A former radio executive who collaborated closely with Jackie ‘O’ Henderson and Kyle Sandilands doesn’t think the two will be able to repair their relationship.
Craig Bruce was the program director at 2DayFM while Kyle and Jackie were popular hosts. He later moved to SCA radio and continued to work with the successful duo for ten years as their head of programming.
Bruce announced on Monday that the popular Kyle and Jackie O show has effectively ended, following a disagreement between the hosts that began with a debate about astrology on the air.
Bruce explained that he believes the couple is growing distant, but understands why after being together for nearly 27 years.
‘So they spent half their lives in a small room together.’
Asked if this rift was ‘the beginning of the end’, Bruce said he felt it is.
Honestly, I have a feeling things might not last. I don’t see this contract playing out for the full ten years, if I’m being realistic. It just doesn’t feel sustainable to me.
In 2023, Sandilands and Henderson agreed to a 10-year contract with Australian Radio Network (ARN), with eight years remaining on the deal.
They were paid a reported $200 million in that landmark negotiation.

I was so ready to hear her voice again, but it looks like we’re all going to have to wait a little longer. It’s just ridiculous!
On Friday, February 20th, the 50-year-old radio personality became emotional after a co-host, Kyle, criticized her interest in astrology, saying it was impacting her job.
After a disagreement, Jackie took some time off work and was scheduled to be back on The Kyle & Jackie O Show on March 2nd.
On Monday’s show, Kyle announced that Henderson will be taking another week off.
Okay, so everyone’s been asking about where she’s been, and honestly, I don’t have a ton of details. What I do know is that she’ll be back on the radio eventually – just not sure exactly when yet. We’re all looking forward to her return, of course!
This follows Kyle’s denial of rumors that his radio show was being cancelled, after he missed the show last Thursday.
Kyle Sandilands addressed recent reports about his absence from the radio, explaining he simply took a day off due to illness during Friday’s show.
The presenter explained he had been up through the night caring for his unwell baby.
‘I haven’t vanished, everyone,’ he said at the start of the show.
The newspapers reported that my show, Kyle & Jackie O, had ended and that I had disappeared. But it really proves you shouldn’t trust everything you read in the news.
‘I feel they may have had their phones cut off; no one even rang to check.’
Kyle said his three-year-old son Otto had been coughing throughout the night.
He explained it was a difficult night because the baby kept him awake with his coughing, and it gave him a headache.
He explained that hosting the show is challenging even when he’s well-rested, and it was even more difficult after a sleepless night.
Kyle previously expressed his ‘regret’ over the fiery on-air clash that left Jackie in tears.
An emotional Jackie said she was deeply ‘offended’ by his brutal comments during the clash.
Last Wednesday, Kyle admitted he wished he had handled things differently.
I clearly bothered her. Looking back, I probably shouldn’t have said that while we were live. But we often say things impulsively on this show.
I didn’t intend to upset her, but clearly I did, and I feel bad about that. Nobody wants to cause someone pain, especially someone they care about.
I’m not sure what’s going to happen, but the show is continuing as planned. I’m letting the managers handle everything from here on out.
Kyle explained he simply wants to return to broadcasting with everyone feeling good about the situation. He expressed a desire for everyone involved, including the other person, to be happy and enjoy the process, and he wants to feel that way too.
He playfully said he’d replace anyone on the production team without hesitation if it meant getting his co-star instead, implying he valued them above all others.
Jackie broke down in tears when the pair were discussing Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
Kyle got angry at her when she proceeded to read out the disgraced royal’s birth chart.
He lambasted his co-star, claiming that her love for astrology was affecting her work.
When Jackie tried to explain her side and said he was the one who started things, he insisted he was simply stating what happened.
