Former Hollyoaks star Ali Bastian shares heartfelt tribute to her husband and ‘best friend’ David O’Mahony for supporting her – four months after breast cancer diagnosis

Ali Bastian has posted a touching message honoring her husband, David O’Mahony, highlighting his unwavering support during her battle with cancer.
Previously on “Hollyoaks,” a renowned actress, aged 42, who gained fame for portraying Becca Dean from 2001 to 2007, received the diagnosis of stage two breast cancer from physicians in June.
Ali, who is set to have a mastectomy and radiation therapy following chemotherapy, posted an emotional message on Instagram referring to David as her ‘most cherished companion’.
With a collection of personal videos featuring photos, Ali disclosed that her diagnosis had been a challenge for her acting companion. She expressed gratitude for having him stand by her during this time.
As a lifestyle guide, I’d share this: In my perspective, the beloved soap actors are facing similar struggles we all do when juggling work and personal life. Their situation is unique, though, as they grapple with self-employment while one of them, Ali, bravely fights breast cancer. It’s a testament to their resilience and strength.

Experiencing cancer can be a challenging journey for individuals, but let me tell you, it’s particularly harsh on those who are closest to them. In simpler terms, cancer affects not only the person diagnosed but also deeply impacts their loved ones.
This individual is currently in charge of childcare, taking care of me while I enjoy a rollercoaster ride, and attempting to complete work amidst the chaos – truth be told, it’s been quite challenging… Being self-employed, there isn’t much support system in place for us when unexpected situations like this arise.
“He’s really tired, but he’s more than just a friend – he’s my hero. I always adore you, David ❤. Here are some memories from our most joyful moments ❤.
The collection of family photos also contained shots of the pair appearing affectionate during their vacation, as well as moments with their pet dog by their side.
In one photo, the two laughed as they stood exchanging vows on their wedding day.
In a heartwarming snapshot, the couple shared a laugh while cuddling with their 4-year-old daughter Isla in bed. In some other images, they engaged in playful antics, making funny faces and acting sillily.
Ali’s 75,000 followers offered encouraging remarks on the family photos she shared, commending her courage and expressing affection towards her.
The actress’s emotional post comes just days after she shaved her head in a heartbreaking video.
Using the ballad “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman, Ali shared that enduring whatever it takes is a minor cost compared to regaining her health. She went on to express that this experience would leave an indelible mark on her, forever changing who she is.
In the presence of her spouse David, who was giving Ali a haircut, the actress confidently flashed a smile at the camera just moments before having her hair shaved off.
She then revealed her new look and in one candid shot, cuddled up to her youngest child.
“For someone with breast cancer, every month seems like Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” She wrote in her caption.
She went on to say: ‘As I delve deeper into my therapy, it’s becoming clearer that this process reflects how exposed and unadorned I currently feel. I choose to share this journey not as a step back to who I once was, but as a progression towards my future. It’s about presenting myself honestly, authentically – in the here and now.’
She remarked: ‘To every courageous woman battling breast cancer, know that you’re never on your own. #BreastCancerAwareness’

Ali, currently residing in Ireland with her spouse and their two little girls, shared with OK!: “It came as an absolute surprise. There are mornings when I rise and I can’t recall… and then, all of a sudden, it hits me again. I am still working through the reality of it.
While nursing her 19-month-old daughter Isabella, who is the youngest among her children with her husband David, Ali discovered a lump.
The mother of two, who is accompanied in raising Isla (four years old) with her spouse, mentioned: “I wasn’t nursing Izzy at night, but when David returned to London for work, all of a sudden she was breastfeeding excessively. I thought, ‘Perhaps she’s going through a growth spurt or something.’
Consequently, they felt tender, and the following morning, I found myself wincing in pain upon waking up, realizing it was quite uncomfortable. It was at this point that I detected a lump.
Ali thought she might have a ‘clogged milk duct’, and her doctor prescribed antibiotics for it, but it didn’t improve. Following her physician’s recommendation, she decided to visit a specialized breast clinic instead.
She continued: ‘It was a bank holiday in Ireland, so I went straight to the emergency doctor.
It appeared I might have had mastitis, given my situation – I was weaning Izzy at night before this happened, and it seemed like a blocked duct could be the culprit. We assumed this was the case, so I was prescribed antibiotics by the doctor. He advised me to return to the breast clinic if the issue persisted for several more days.
However, the situation didn’t seem to improve, and as I continued to feel it, my suspicions grew that this might be more than just a clogged duct. I then approached my general practitioner and requested an immediate appointment at the clinic, which she graciously accommodated.
Ali learned the surprising news over the phone, but was comforted when informed that there was an intention for recovery in her case.
She’s about to have a simple mastectomy and is yet to learn if having a double one would be beneficial for preventive purposes.
