Former Hendrick driver back in NASCAR after seven years
Since 2018, Kasey Kahne has been absent from NASCAR racing, as he missed the last 11 races of his tenure with Leavine Family Racing due to health issues. However, this is about to be different come April.
Richard Childress Racing has announced that Kahne will be behind the wheel of a third car for them during the Xfinity Series race at Rockingham Speedway on April 19, marking its return after over two decades. On that particular weekend, he will join regular drivers Jesse Love and Austin Hill in the team’s racing roster.
Kahne will pilot the No. 33 Chevrolet, backed by HendrickCars.com, in the 250-lap race at Rockingham, a four-turn, 1.017-mile (1.637-kilometer) oval track located in North Carolina.
Kasey Kahne returns to NASCAR
Kahne, who continues to participate in different types of motorsport after leaving NASCAR in September 2018, claimed victory in the Truck Series at “The Rock” for Turner Motorsports back in 2012. However, this track has not hosted a race in the Xfinity Series since as far back as 2004.
Born and raised in Enumclaw, Washington, this 44-year-old individual last raced in an Xfinity Series event back in 2017 – specifically at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway for JR Motorsports. In his racing career, he has accumulated eight wins in the Xfinity Series, with his latest victory being at Daytona in 2014.
After spending the last six years of his career as a full-time driver at Hendrick Motorsports from 2012 to 2017, and with William Byron taking over in 2018, it’s fitting that HendrickCars.com is now sponsoring Kahne’s No. 33 Chevrolet for the race in April.
Kahne has never competed for Richard Childress Racing in a NASCAR race.
Live coverage of the Rockingham 250 will air on the CW Network, commencing at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, April 19, right from Rockingham Speedway.
