As a lifelong cinema and comedy enthusiast, I am absolutely thrilled about Roy Wood Jr.’s new venture with CNN’s remake of “Have I Got News for You.” His background as a journalist’s son, radio host, comedian, and former correspondent on The Daily Show makes him the perfect fit to satirize today’s news.
Funny man and performer Roy Wood Jr. is teaming up with CNN for their American adaptation of the popular British talk show “Have I Got News for You.”
Forty-five-year-old Wood will be the host for a quiz show-like program serving as a platform for comedians, commentators, and media figures to mock current events. This ten-week series will air every Saturday at 9 p.m. Eastern starting from September 14th.
From 2015 to 2023, Wood was a permanent feature on “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central. Born to a journalist, he provided the humorous speech at the White House Correspondents Association dinner in 2023.
As a dedicated film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that it’s me who will be part of the team bringing the CNN adaptation of the popular British show “Have I Got News for You,” which is masterfully produced by Hat Trick Productions. Can’t wait to see it unfold!
During his college years, Wood temporarily worked as a journalist for a radio station located in Birmingham, Alabama. Subsequently, he ventured into stand-up comedy and presented a morning radio show.
Previously, he made an appearance on the NBC reality show “Last Comic Standing” and regularly featured on the TBS sitcom “Sullivan & Son”. In 2015, he became a correspondent for “The Daily Show.”
On Saturdays, CNN is adopting a comedic format to foster regular viewing, particularly during evening hours. Recently, they’ve started re-airing “Real Time With Bill Maher,” originally from HBO, as part of this strategy. It’s important to note that both HBO and CNN belong to Warner Bros. Discovery.
Fox News, dominating cable news viewership, enjoys popularity during primetime hours with more entertaining programming. On Saturdays, comedian Jimmy Failla helms “Fox News Saturday Night,” often drawing over a million viewers per week.
