Former ABC News executive Tom Ciabrowski tapped as president of CBS News
Tom Ciabrowski, the man responsible for overseeing the highly successful era of “Good Morning America” at ABC, is now moving to CBS News where he will take on the roles of president and executive editor.
In a recent announcement made on Thursday, the well-known news department, embroiled in a legal dispute with President Trump, declared that Ciabrowski will now manage both news collection and programming.
In simpler terms, Ciabrowski is going to be overseen by Wendy McMahon, who is the president and CEO of CBS News, Television Stations, and CBS Media Ventures. He is replacing Adrian Roark, who previously held this position but has now moved on to a leadership role at Tegna, which specializes in TV stations.
Since early 2019, with David Rhodes stepping down in January of that year, Susan Zirinsky has been serving as the fifth CBS News president. Currently, she is leading a documentary division within Paramount Global.
CBS News will rely on Ciabrowski to bring stability as they maneuver through a lawsuit filed by Trump over allegations that their “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential campaign was deceptively edited and constituted election interference. Trump is seeking $20 billion in damages, contending that the edited interview was misleading.
As a passionate cinephile, I’m excited to share some intriguing news. Backstage discussions have been held, and it seems that the broadcasting giant, CBS News’ parent company, Paramount Global, is aiming to finalize a merger agreement with Skydance Media. This potential alliance could reshape the landscape of our beloved film industry.

A significant shift towards digital platforms is imminent. However, the question remains whether consumers will find the CNN brand valuable enough to subscribe to its online services.
From a programming perspective, Ciabrowski’s role involves addressing issues with the newly revamped “CBS Evening News,” which introduced an anchor team and a meteorologist, but seems to have met with disapproval from its audience.
CIabrowski boasts extensive background in broadcast journalism, having served as a producer for the morning news program “The Early Show” on CBS, where Bryant Gumbel shared the anchor desk at that time.
In a shift, Ciabrowski relocated to ABC, immersing himself in extensive travel and creating news reports from conflict areas like Kosovo and Iraq. During his role as senior executive producer of “Good Morning America” in 2012, the show surpassed NBC’s “Today” in ratings for the first time in 16 years under his leadership.
In a recent development, Ciabrowski has been appointed as the senior vice president overseeing ABC News Programs, news collection, and special events. For the past seven years, he served as the president and general manager at KGO-TV, which is a television station owned by Disney in San Francisco.
