Ford is recalling over 565,000 Bronco and Bronco Raptor SUVs made from 2021 to 2026 due to a safety issue. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there’s a problem with wiring in the engine compartment that could potentially cause a fire.
The official report states that a protective covering on some wiring is insufficient. This can cause the wires to rub against other parts of the engine, leading to exposed wires and potentially creating short circuits, overheating, or sparks under the hood. Drivers might notice this problem through smoke coming into the car’s vents, flames near the front passenger side of the engine, or warning lights on the dashboard.
Ford has found 15 reports of a potential wiring problem in some Broncos and Bronco Raptors. However, they believe only about 1% of the recalled vehicles actually have the defect. Dealers will fix the issue at no cost by adding extra protection to the wiring harness with special tape and covering.
