For Nordic noir fans! A new psychological thriller is on the way with Marcella’s Anna Friel leading the cast
Actress Anna Friel, known for her role as Marcella, will soon return to our television screens with a new crime drama that delves into the realm of Nordic mystery.
In 2021, the popular psychological thriller “The Girl Who Died” by Icelandic author Ragnar Jónasson was released and is now being transformed into a television series, with Friel as its director.
The upcoming series marks the inaugural production from Jonasson’s freshly established film and television company, Dimma Pictures.
What to Read Next
The tale unfolds around Una, a weary educator hailing from Reykjavik, who accepts a position to instruct two pupils in the secluded coastal town of Skálar. However, it turns out that only one student is present.
In the small fishing hamlet, Una often feels lonely and out-of-place, as she is frequently disturbed at night by unsettling visions and mysterious melodies.
As tensions rise and a tragic event occurs, Una starts to believe that Skálar may conceal ominous truths that people are unwilling to disclose.
Jonasson enthusiastically expressed his anticipation for the debut of Dimma Pictures, as he can hardly contain his eagerness to breathe life into “The Girl Who Died” on the big screen.
The renowned writer expressed great enthusiasm when discussing the establishment of Dimma Pictures alongside Greg Silverman and John-Paul Sarni, stating that they are eager to bring their storytelling passion to life on both pages and screens.
I’m eagerly looking forward to diving into our debut series, titled “The Girl Who Died“, starring the remarkable Anna Friel. I hope that this is just the beginning and we have even more thrilling projects ahead, not only from my own novels but also from books penned by some of my favorite writers.
However, The Girl Who Died isn’t the only project in the works at Dimma Pictures.
Another project in the works is an adaptation of the Icelandic mystery novel “Reykjavík: A Crime Story” by Jónasson, which he collaborated on with Katrin Jakobsdóttir. This means that they jointly wrote it.
The television show titled “Snowblind,” an adaptation from Jónasson’s “Dark Iceland” book series, where the title derives from the initial book, is also being worked on at Dimma Pictures.
The long-awaited debut print issue of Digital Spy, titled “British Comedy Legends,” is available now! You can purchase this exciting magazine from your local newsagents or online for only £3.99.
