For fans of a dark and gritty crime drama, HBO’s new detective series will be your next obsession

HBO has a new dark and gritty crime drama on the way that you’ll want to keep an eye out for.

The task is penned by Brad Ingelsby, who created “Mare of Easttown”, and revolves around an FBI agent whose life intertwines with that of a regular family man.

The story unfolds in Philadelphia, focusing on the protagonist (played by Mark Ruffalo), who leads a team to stop a series of brutal robberies orchestrated by an apparently ordinary man, portrayed by Tom Pelphrey from Ozark.

What to Read Next

More recently, Ingelsby shared with Vanity Fair that the basis of the seven-part series stems from his own uncle’s life story – an ex-priest who abandoned his vocation for love, and also from the intriguing real-life instances where priests have provided assistance to FBI agents.

He shared that he has a very close bond with his uncle, and as such, he frequently seeks his advice. More specifically, he’s curious about the reasons behind his uncle leaving, the nature of his relationship with God, and how it has progressed or transformed throughout the years.

I found that character intriguing – a man whose belief system is tested through life’s occurrences. What actions and reactions does he exhibit under such circumstances?

The showrunner openly acknowledged that, being from Philadelphia himself, he feels confident and knowledgeable enough to discuss and pen the show with a sense of authenticity and certainty.

In the executive producer role, Ingelsby joins forces with Ruffalo, Paul Lee, Mark Roybal, Ron Schmidt, and David Crockett. Meanwhile, directors Jeremiah Zagar (known for “Hustle”) and Salli Richardson-Whitfield (recognized from “The Gilded Age”) will be in charge of the project as well.

Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Head of Drama Series and Films, expressed great excitement in teaming up with Brad Ingelsby once more. Notably, he is the talented creator behind ‘Mare of Easttown’,” (paraphrased from original statement)

The incredible creativity and unique talent Brad has for engaging his audience is truly awe-inspiring, and we are thrilled beyond words to start this new adventure with him.

As soon as there was an opening for us to collaborate with Mark again on another show, everyone was eager to watch him bring more depth and authenticity to a fresh character.
