Footy fans hit AFL star Darcy Moore’s feminist Triple J host girlfriend with savage insult and say she has ‘captured his gonads’ – and she hits back with classy response
As an ardent fan of the captivating world of AFL and its vibrant personalities, I find myself utterly enamored by the extraordinary love story unfolding between Dee Salmin and Darcy Moore. The resilience, grace, and unapologetic feminism that Dee exudes in the face of adversity is nothing short of inspiring.
Dee Salmon, a host on Triple J, gracefully addressed a malicious commenter on social media who made disparaging remarks about her relationship with AFL player Darcy Moore, in a refined and dignified manner.
The Sunday Hook Up host shared a photo to Instagram of her and Darcy, 28, attending the Brownlow Medal ceremony in Melbourne on Wednesday, along with a public comment she had received from the troll.
The troll posted, ‘Darcy possesses wealth, popularity, and exceptional soccer abilities, but supposedly gave up those parts of himself to a powerful witch who advocates for women’s rights.’ (This version attempts to tone down the original statement by replacing the colloquial term “gonads” with “those parts of himself”, and using more formal language to describe the actions.)
In a stylish manner, Dee shared a rendition of the iconic 1972 hit “Witchy Woman” by The Eagles on her post.
‘Immortalising the highest compliment I’ve ever received,’ she wrote.
Regarding the phrase, ‘Alpha move,’ that Cody Weightman, the Bulldogs player, used, Georgie Parker, the AFLW star, responded with: ‘I long to be labeled a strong, female advocate. Keep shining, queen!’
By July, Darcy and Dee’s unique living situation sparked discussions within the AFL community. Fans referred to the Collingwood captain as “progressive” and suggested that his atypical relationship could be contributing to a dip in performance.
Dee raised eyebrows when she revealed on a podcast why they don’t live together.
A common response from many fans was that Salmin’s detailed justification for living separately, filled with contemporary feminist terms and psychological jargon, caused them to involuntarily roll their eyes.
Salmin shared that she currently doesn’t reside with her partner due to our divergent, self-reliant, and occupied lifestyles.
‘We get to have so much of what we had when we were still single in our relationship.
However, I ponder if you’ll be able to maintain such a lifestyle once you start cohabiting. Many aspects of it are learned behaviors based on heteronormative dynamics, which could potentially become habits.
Her line about ‘hetero-dynamic learnt behaviours’ caused a firestorm on social media.
Supporters of Collingwood reacted diversely, with certain individuals connecting Salmin’s remarks to the struggles in Moore’s performance, while others found Salmin’s interview perplexing due to her employing advanced terminology that was hard to follow.
In August 2023, during the opening night of Moulin Rouge in Melbourne, a photo emerged of Moore and Salmin holding hands, fueling speculations that they might be in a romantic relationship.
Later on, they publicly acknowledged their relationship by attending multiple high-profile events together on the red carpet.
