Footy and cricket greats left shattered as their radio show is axed in shock announcement: ‘It doesn’t make sense’
As a dedicated follower of Australian radio, I can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for these popular Adelaide radio trios whose shows have been abruptly axed. The sudden change leaves me feeling like a cricket batsman who’s just seen a yorker coming straight at him – caught off guard and left reeling.
The well-liked Adelaide radio threesome is taken aback following the cancellation of their highly-rated afternoon program, which will be replaced by a broadcast from Melbourne.
This week, it was announced that Andrew Jarman, Bernie Vince (both notable in AFL), and Greg Blewett (a cricket legend) will conclude their daily Triple M Rush Hour radio program at the end of this year.
Speaking to The Advertiser, co-host Greg Blewett described the axing as a ‘shock.’
The ex-Australian cricketer and Channel 7 cricket commentator stated that it was incomprehensible to everyone listening.
The show will come back on air next week and continue until mid-November. It’s expected that this program will be followed by “Rush Hour,” a show based in Melbourne, hosted by Billy Brownless and James Brayshaw.
Since 2021, the well-known radio team from Adelaide has been hosting the program, securing the top spot in their timeframe during the latest radio rating survey in August.
I couldn’t contain my excitement when 104.7 Triple M Adelaide clinched the title of overall number one station in Adelaide! Not only that, but they also took the top spots for Rush Hour and the Roo, Ditts & Loz Breakfast Show. As a die-hard fan, it’s moments like these that make my fandom even stronger!
A radio insider told the Advertiser the decision was probably a ‘cost cutting measure.’
Regardless, Greg said the axing was ‘tough’ to take.
He stated, “Our program was clearly successful and drawing high ratings, but it’s a move based on management’s perspective regarding the business.
‘Unfortunately we’re the ones that have to pay the price.’
He continued: ‘It was a tough day yesterday. Everyone’s families are feeling it, we’re feeling it… we’ll take the rest of the week off to let the dust settle.’

News arrives following the termination of the established 4BC breakfast team consisting of Laurel Edwards, Mark Hine, and Gary Clare from their coveted slot last week.
In 2022, a well-known threesome from Florida was grandly introduced when the radio station transitioned its early morning program to a classic hits format, causing quite a stir.
In their first appearance, they boasted a significant 11.8% audience share, earning them the third spot in the highly competitive breakfast radio market in Queensland’s capital city.
The ratings for their program have significantly dropped, as they ended up in the dismal last position in the most recent survey, holding just 4.3% of the audience’s interest.
On a Friday afternoon, Greg Byrnes, who is the Head of Content at Nine Radio, shared that the team had opted for a fresh strategy in managing their morning programming.
