Foo Fighters parts ways with drummer Josh Freese
According to a statement by veteran drummer Josh Freese, the rock band Foo Fighters has announced his departure.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I took to Instagram yesterday evening to share that the Foo Fighters had reached out to me, informing me about their choice to part ways with their drummer. No specific reasons were provided. Regardless, I cherished my last two years alongside them, both on and off stage, and I stand behind whatever decision they believe is best for the band. In my four decades of professional drumming, this is the first time I’ve been released from a group. Although I may be a bit stunned and disheartened, I’m far from angry – just surprised. But given my history of freelance work and moving between bands, I’m adapting well to the change.

A representative for the band confirmed the departure but declined to comment.

Foo Fighters, Paul McCartney, Travis Barker, and Queen were among those who took part in a memorial show dedicated to the deceased Taylor Hawkins.
With a rich background in music, particularly in the SoCal punk scene with the band the Vandals, and subsequent stints in Guns N’ Roses, A Perfect Circle, Devo, and eventually, joining Foo Fighters in 2023, Freese became a prominent figure. He secured this notable role following the sad demise of Taylor Hawkins, the cherished drummer of Foo Fighters.
Previously, the band honored Hawkins with an emotional tribute concert in 2022. At this event, Shane, who was 16 years old at the time, took his father’s place on the drums during their performance of “My Hero.” More recently, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, both former members of Nirvana, joined forces to perform at the FireAid benefit concert held in Inglewood this year.
The band hasn’t yet revealed their new drummer; their upcoming show is set for October 4th in Singapore.
