Foo Fighters announce one-off Australia show in a very surprising location

Foo Fighters, the popular American rock band, have confirmed they’ll be playing a single show in Australia in 2026, following hints they might tour the country.

Foo Fighters, led by Dave Grohl, will perform a single concert in Tasmania on January 24th at UTAS Stadium in Launceston.

On Wednesday morning, the band and Frontier Touring, the Australian company bringing them to Australia, announced the news on Instagram, getting fans really excited.

However, many mainland Aussies are still clinging to hopes of a full national tour.

One fan commented on the band’s Instagram, asking if they would be extending their tour to the rest of Australia, specifically requesting a show in Brisbane.

Fans eagerly requested additional concert dates, with one suggesting Sydney or Melbourne. Others flooded the comments section with pleas for more shows in Sydney, Brisbane, or other cities.

It marks their first visit to Tasmania in a decade.

In 2015, as part of their Australian Sonic Highways tour, the band performed at the Derwent Entertainment Centre in Hobart.

News about the concert leaked when the Instagram fan account @FooFightersLive posted the event artwork on Monday night.

Frontier, an Australian touring company, also posted on Instagram Monday, suggesting a major announcement regarding the band behind the song ‘Learn To Fly’ was coming soon.

A photo circulated online showing a huge billboard featuring the Foo Fighters, placed on top of The Winston pub in Hobart, Tasmania.

The picture was posted with a quote – ‘Give me a reason, show me a sign’ – from the Foo Fighters’ new song, ‘Asking For A Friend.’ It also included a link to a special Foo Fighters page on the Frontier Touring website.

The post was met with a flurry of excitement from Aussie Foo Fighters fans.

Tasmanians definitely noticed where the billboard was placed, especially since the band hadn’t played in Tasmania during their last tour.

Seriously? Someone spotted this billboard in Hobart! One fan said they didn’t understand what it meant, but immediately recognized the logo.

One person expressed great excitement about the news, and another commented that it seemed like they were going to Tasmania.

It’s not the first time the band has treated Australian fans to a one-night-only performance.

Back in 2022, the band took over the 36,000-capacity GMHBA Stadium in Geelong, Victoria.

The concert, featuring the popular band Monkey Wrench alongside local groups The Meanies and Amyl and the Sniffers, was organized by the Victorian Government to help revive live music after the COVID-19 pandemic.

A fan who saw the band perform in Geelong commented on their announcement about a Tasmanian show, saying ticket holders are in for a great experience.

‘The one night only show in Geelong was the best concert ever!!’ they wrote. ‘Well done Tassy!!’

They also played a one-off charity show for flood relief in Brisbane back in 2011.

The Foo Fighters were created in 1994 by Dave Grohl, the former drummer for Nirvana. They’ve since earned 15 Grammy Awards, with five wins specifically for Best Rock Album.

In 2021, the band was honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and they’ve sold over 50 million albums worldwide.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen incredible fan devotion, and nothing quite compares to what this band has in Australia! Their fans have snapped up 1.8 million albums, and honestly, they’ve dominated the charts – nearly every one of their studio albums has hit the top spot. It’s a testament to their connection with the Australian public.

Tickets for the Foo Fighters concert in Tasmania go on sale at 4pm on Wednesday, December 1st.

Tickets will be available to Telstra Plus members starting at 12pm on Friday, December 5th. Frontier Members can purchase tickets during a pre-sale starting at 1pm on Monday, December 8th.
