‘FNAF 2’ Movie Unveils First Look at The Puppet (And He Looks Great)

The upcoming movie Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is fully revealing the design of the unsettling character The Puppet (also known as the Marionette). This second film in the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise, produced by Blumhouse and based on Scott Cawthon’s popular horror games, is raising the stakes with both new animatronic characters and the return of familiar faces.

Fans are especially excited about The Puppet, a robotic character who gives out prizes at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. The first look at this character, also known as the Marionette, appeared in the trailer for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, where you can briefly see its long, black fingers behind the actress Elizabeth (Vanessa Shelly).

New photos from a preview event for the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie give a detailed look at the Marionette’s appearance. TopMob attended the event and shared pictures of promotional materials, showing that the movie version of the Marionette closely resembles its design from the video games.

The character is frequently shown appearing from inside a music box, which also controls its movements. The upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie appears to follow this pattern, with promotional images depicting the character waving from within a gift box.

The Marionette from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 keeps the classic look of a clown: it wears a black and white striped outfit, has three long fingers, and features a smiling face with red cheeks and black eyes.

As a huge fan of the source material, I’m really excited to see how faithfully they’re bringing the Marionette to life on screen. The early images show they’re sticking very closely to the game’s design – that unsettling, spindly body and creepy face are almost exactly as I imagined them, which is a fantastic sign!

Emma Tammi is directing the sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s, with Jason Blum producing. The film stars Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Shelly, Matthew Lillard, and Piper Rubio, who are returning to their roles as the story delves deeper into the secrets of the spooky animatronics at a new Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on December 5, 2025.

What Role Will the Marionette Play in FNAF 2?

In the Five Nights at Freddy’s games, the Marionette is a particularly scary enemy. In the second game, players have to check security cameras and keep a music box playing. If the music box winds down, the Marionette will come after you. Unlike other enemies, the Freddy mask or flashlight won’t work on it, so if the Marionette reaches you, you immediately lose the game.

It’s clear how certain parts of the game will create scares in the new Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. The Marionette appearing from its music box, combined with the creepy music, is likely to be a really frightening scene. The trailer already shows the Marionette following Elizabeth, hinting it will be a scary and dangerous character throughout the film – possibly one of the most threatening animatronics the group faces.

Similar to the other animatronics, the Marionette is haunted by the spirit of a child who was murdered, and this backstory will probably be important in the second movie. But the Marionette won’t be the only threat in FNAF 2; audiences will also encounter the new Toy animatronics (including Mangle) and the older, damaged Withered animatronics.
