With the sun dipping as early as on the dual stars of Tatooine, there’s a growing excitement across the nation for the kickoff of the NFL season. It might surprise you, but the champions from last year’s Super Bowl actually share connections with the Star Wars universe.
A sound specialist named David Acord was part of Skywalker Sound during the releases of “The Force Awakens” and “Rogue One.” Besides being an ardent Star Wars enthusiast, this fellow also passionately supports the Philadelphia Eagles football team.
Prior to Disney taking over the franchise, Acord had the chance to contribute to movies like “Attack of the Clones” and “The Incredibles”. In the year 2015, he was a key sound designer for “The Force Awakens”.
He received an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Sound Editing for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a recognition for his diligent work. Additionally, it seemed he was able to express his passion for the Eagles by integrating elements of their fandom into the movie as well.
In the movie, Teedo, the scavenger who brings Rey and BB-8 together on the deserted Jakku, was given voice by Acord. This character’s dialogue included elements of Thai language. Additionally, some of the lines spoken by this character were voiced by NFL players Brent Celek and Fletcher Cox.
It’s delightful for someone who appreciates two distinct fandoms to merge their passions and have an enjoyable experience simultaneously. As for me, I’m a die-hard Star Wars fan and my little one is just beginning her journey with this epic saga. On another note, I proudly support the Las Vegas Raiders of the NFL, as evidenced by my silver and black attire.
When working on the sound team for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Acord further embodied his love for the Eagles by integrating more of his fandom into the production.
During the search for Saw Gerrera, it was required for a prayer to be heard in the background. Consequently, Acord skillfully wove the “Fly Eagles Fly” chant into the movie using a language suitable for the scene.
Lately, he found recognition for his exceptional work on the critically acclaimed show, Andor. This earned him an Emmy nomination for sound editing. It was a particularly triumphant year for him, not just because of the series’ success, but also due to the Eagles’ historic second Super Bowl win in their history.
His Instagram page has pictures from both his work on the franchise and celebrating the Eagles.
It could be either David Acord or Carl Weathers, who was part of the Raiders in 1970 and 1971; their connection lies with the NFL and Star Wars. This serves as an example that enthusiasts can creatively merge their passions for a fun and entertaining experience.
