Florescent protests alt account ban, VALORANT community says it’s fair

Ava “florescent” Eugene, a two-time Game Changers winner, has asked Riot Games to lift the ban on her secondary VALORANT account, though many in the gaming community don’t support her request. Riot issued the suspension due to concerns about unfair gameplay, but florescent doesn’t believe the ban is justified.

A request from Ava “florescent” Eugene, a two-time Game Changers winner, for Riot Games to lift the ban on her secondary account has caused a lot of discussion online. Although the 19-year-old insists she didn’t violate any rules, most of the VALORANT community believes the ban is justified. The situation has really stirred up controversy on social media.

Florescent VALORANT account suspended

Florescent revealed her suspension on X on Sept. 28. The retired VALORANT pro shared a screenshot of a message from Riot Games, showing her alternate account’s suspension would end on Dec. 26, 2025. The suspension will be lifted at that time.

Reports from players and an automatic review of gameplay show that this account has likely altered its own ranking or the ranking of other players. This was done through unusual changes in skill level and by playing unfairly, which violates our user agreement (specifically, Section 7 of our Terms of Service) and negatively impacts the experience for other players.

Riot Games automated message to florescent

However, florescent does not believe any manipulation took place.

On X, a user named florescent stated they received a ban in VALORANT. They explained they were playing solo queue on an account they leveled themselves. “I did not queue with anyone (no boosting), my own personal account that I handlevelled (did not purchase my account), trying to win every game and rank up (not tank MMR to stay in an ELO/MMR I don’t belong in,” they said. Essentially, they were attempting to climb the ranks legitimately, and weren’t intentionally losing games to manipulate their matchmaking rank.

This is essentially the same thing as using a second account (alt account) and attempting to achieve the same rank as your primary account, something I, along with many other professional players and regular ranked players, have done repeatedly.

Florescent pushes back: Alt accounts are “completely fine to have”

Florescent was improving her rank on a secondary account, stating she created it about 18 months prior. This timing suggests the account was created after her victory at Game Changers 2023 with Shopify Rebellion. Chronologically, this makes sense.

On September 29th, florescent posted another tweet, including a screenshot of Riot Games’ explanation of different actions that break their Terms of Service (ToS).

florescent stated, “My account was banned, but the reason given – ‘alternate account’ – is perfectly acceptable according to the rules. I’d really appreciate it if you could unban me.”

Community reaction: overwhelmingly in support of Riot’s decision

The response to florescent’s request to get their alternative X/Twitter account back has been largely negative. We looked at all the replies to understand the general feeling. The results showed that 70% of people agreed with the ban, 20% were either undecided or didn’t address the issue, and just 10% wanted the account to be reinstated.

One X user stated, “You’re negatively impacting the experience for players in gold, silver, and lower levels.” Another user commented: “It’s unusual to see Riot allow this, so just play on your primary account or other alternate accounts. There’s no need to spoil the game for others.”

“My initial ranked match pitted me against Diamond-level players, and now, after just 20 games, my account is frequently placed in matches with players who’ve reached Immortal 2 or 3,” florescent commented.

florescent asked, “If you see a high-ranked player or a professional player using a secondary account that’s reached Radiant, how do you think they got it there? I’m really focused on ranking up quickly.”

Currently, Riot hasn’t changed its stance, and most players don’t seem to want florescent’s alternate account unbanned. As of right now, florescent’s alternate account is still suspended.
