Florence Pugh will star in and help produce the movie adaptation of the popular novel, The Midnight Library. The film will be directed by Garth Davis, who is also directing the upcoming series East of Eden, which also features Pugh.
Matt Haig’s novel, The Midnight Library, published in 2020, quickly became a popular hit, landing on the New York Times bestseller list and being nominated for Fiction Book of the Year at the British Book Awards. The story centers around a woman who discovers a magical library where she can explore different paths her life could have taken.
Laura Wade, currently a writer on the Disney+ series Rivals, and Nick Payne, the creator of Wanderlust and writer of We Live In Time (which starred Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield), will be writing the screenplay.

Studiocanal and Blueprint Pictures are producing the film, and preparations will start later this year, with filming scheduled to begin in early 2027.
According to Deadline, Florence Pugh will play Nora Seed, a woman who discovers a library existing between life and death. There, she’s given the opportunity to explore all the different lives she might have lived.
What to Read Next
Haig will be an executive producer on the film, which Deadline reports is StudioCanal’s most expensive production in years.
Haig expressed delight that Nora’s story is being adapted by such a talented team, and believes they will beautifully bring her complex character to life.
“And I can’t wait for people to see my book reimagined for the big screen.”
Davis added: “I couldn’t be more excited to reunite with Florence Pugh on The Midnight Library.”

She’s incredibly talented and has a wonderful personality, and I’m confident we’ll create something amazing adapting Matt’s famous novel.
Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal and Chief Content Officer of Canal+ Group, expressed excitement about collaborating with talented filmmakers to adapt Matt Haig’s touching novel for the cinema, in collaboration with Blueprint Pictures.
I’m absolutely blown away by Garth’s new film! It feels like a celebration of everything that makes life worth living. The story is so gripping – you really feel the pressure of time slipping away, and the emotions are incredibly raw and powerful. I’m especially excited to see Florence Pugh play Nora; I think she’s going to perfectly capture Nora’s journey of discovering a deep appreciation for life.
