The 2019 film Fighting with My Family, which told the true story of WWE wrestler Paige, is being adapted into a stage musical. Tilted Musicals is partnering with Seven Bucks Productions, Stephen Merchant, Kevin Misher, and Birmingham Hippodrome to bring the story to life on stage.
I recently checked out Fighting with My Family, and wow, Florence Pugh is incredible as Paige (that’s Saraya Bevis outside the ring!). Jack Lowden, who played her brother Zak, was great too. Seriously, it’s a really good movie – it’s sitting at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and critics are loving it. Vulture called it “memorable,” and The Times even said it was a “triumph!” Definitely worth a watch if you’re looking for something inspiring.
While creating the film, I envisioned it as a musical about a determined young performer trying to become a star. She’s surrounded by flamboyant characters and intense, dramatic feelings,” Merchant said.
I always treated my wrestling matches as if they were elaborate dance routines, carefully building towards a dramatic finish. So, adapting the film for the stage feels like a perfect progression. The creative team has wonderfully captured the story’s humor, toughness, and emotional core, staying true to the original while also making it feel completely new and exciting.

Dwayne Johnson, a producer of the film and also appearing in a brief role as himself, explained that Fighting with My Family seems perfect for a stage adaptation. He believes the movie’s heartfelt story, combined with the exciting world of wrestling – which is fundamentally about telling stories and engaging with an audience – will translate beautifully to a live performance.

Collaborating with Stephen Merchant on this film was wonderful, and it’s fantastic to see his talent recognized with this stage adaptation. I’m certain audiences are going to love it as a musical!
The upcoming musical will have a fresh, exciting soundtrack created by Miranda Cooper and Nick Coler. Jon Brittain wrote the book and lyrics. This production is the first to be developed and produced by Tilted Musicals, a new company founded by Cooper and Sam Hodges, who believe it’s a fantastic way to launch their business.

The best part of this story is its focus on family – the complicated, loving, and often frustrating relationships we all experience. It’s similar in spirit to popular British films like The Full Monty, Billy Elliot, and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, which have all been successfully adapted into stage musicals, they explained.
This year, exclusive workshops are being held for the upcoming Fighting with My Family musical. The public will get to see it in 2027. In the meantime, you can enjoy the movie by buying or renting it on platforms like Prime Video and AppleTV.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautifully illustrated 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
