The Flappy Bird Foundation, following its acquisition of the rights, has officially brought back the classic side-scroller game, Flappy Bird, to Android devices via the Epic Games Store. This announcement was made in September 2024, marking a decade since the game’s initial absence from the market.

Flap your way through the challenging pipes once again

The famously addictive game “Flappy Bird,” originally developed by Dong Nguyen, has returned on mobile devices, though under a different publisher’s management. In this fresh iteration of Flappy Bird, players can continue to navigate through obstacles in the traditional mode or embark on new adventures in the innovative Quest mode.

It’s great to see the game back, but I want to clarify that its original creator, Dong, isn’t involved in this current project. Intriguingly, he didn’t earn a dime from its revival. The trademark for the game lapsed and was acquired by Gametech Holdings, LLC, without any monetary compensation being given.

As a gamer, I’m excited to dive back into the game where I encounter fresh characters such as Tekno, a high-tech avian companion, and Quirky with his magical unicorn horn. What makes this game even more captivating is the ability to personalize these characters and journey through brand new realms and stages.

No Web-3 elements, but Flappy Bird will feature ads and in-app purchases

Initially, the latest developers attempted to release the game incorporating Web-3 features, but encountered significant criticism from the community. However, for this round of launch, they chose to classify it as a Web-2 game, generating revenue primarily through in-game advertisements and the sale of helmets that function as extra lives.

If you’re eager to rekindle old memories, just like me, or embarking on this adventure for the first time, this updated edition appears promising with fresh gameplay, unique worlds, intriguing challenges, and a wealth of content. I hope that in the future they will eliminate those in-game ads, as they can be quite bothersome.

Flappy Bird has made its way back to Android devices through the Epic Games Store, and you can grab the game without spending a penny! The developers have hinted that they are in the process of bringing it to additional platforms; however, they haven’t disclosed specifics just yet.
