FKA Twigs reignites legal battle with ex Shia LaBeouf as she sues over NDA from sexual battery lawsuit settlement

FKA Twigs has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles against her former boyfriend, actor Shia LaBeouf, alleging he attempted to intimidate her into staying quiet and also tried to exploit her financially.

British musician Tahliah Debrett Barnett, known professionally as FKA twigs, reached a settlement with actor Shia LaBeouf in July 2025, ending a five-year legal dispute where she accused him of sexual battery. She is 38 years old and he is 39.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this case closely. Back in 2020, a lawsuit was filed alleging serious misconduct during a relationship – specifically, claims of sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress, with a request for $10 million in damages. It’s important to note that the individual accused, Shia LaBeouf, has strongly denied all of these allegations.

Twigs and LaBeouf started dating after they met while working on his 2019 film, Honey Boy, where Twigs had a role.

Now, Twigs, with lawyer Mathew Rosengart representing her, alleges that LaBeouf is using the same confrontational tactics in their legal battle as he did during their troubled relationship.

Okay, so I’ve been following Tahliah – FKA Twigs, you know – for years, and it’s just horrifying to learn this. Her lawyers are saying Shia LaBeouf has been trying to control her, like, for almost ten years now. They actually wrote it all out in legal documents, and the Daily Mail got ahold of them. It’s just… awful to see it all laid out like that. I’m so worried about her.

Twigs is suing LaBeouf after he unexpectedly requested arbitration last year, seeking a large sum of money as penalty for what he claimed was a broken agreement.

In December, Shia LaBeouf requested funds, claiming FKA Twigs violated an agreement they made five years ago after she spoke with The Hollywood Reporter last autumn.

The Daily Mail has contacted lawyers for both sides for more information, but hasn’t received a response yet.

Twigs filed a lawsuit, stating she wants to correct a harmful situation and also represent other women experiencing sexual and domestic violence who lack the means to protect themselves from abusers.

Twigs explained that she’s taking action to protect others who have experienced sexual misconduct from being intimidated or silenced, as she was through agreements that are illegal and harmful under California law.

LaBeouf took issue with questions the publication asked Twigs about her safety, especially considering the abuse she had previously experienced.

She admitted she didn’t feel safe, but expressed a strong desire to support survivors of trauma. She’s actively involved with groups like Sistah Space and No More, offering help in any way she can.

I’m less focused on the past now and more interested in what the future holds. I’m ready to move forward and start a new chapter.

In a statement to the Daily Mail, Rosengart explained that the legal action was a response to Shia LaBeouf’s attempt to harass and threaten FKA Twigs with a pointless and illegal private arbitration he initiated in December, seeking to get money from her.

We successfully had the case dismissed earlier this month. Importantly, twigs is standing up for herself and other survivors, and she won’t be intimidated any longer.

Rosengart stated the case is remarkable because it doesn’t focus on financial gain, but rather on enforcing California law and protecting survivors by invalidating non-disclosure agreements that aren’t legally sound.

As a huge supporter of Twigs, I was relieved to see her lawyers state that California’s Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act should protect her from any legal claims brought by the actor from ‘Transformers’. It’s good to know there are laws in place to help artists like her.

According to court filings, his pattern of threatening behavior and misuse of the legal system doesn’t just harm FKA Twigs, but also undermines all survivors of sexual assault in California.

In her original 2020 lawsuit, Twigs first claimed the actor subjected her to ongoing verbal and emotional abuse throughout their relationship, which lasted from 2018 to early 2019.

Following Twigs’ 2020 lawsuit, LaBeouf told The New York Times he had a pattern of hurting those he was closest to.

He admitted he shouldn’t tell others how his actions affected them. He wouldn’t offer excuses for his drinking or anger, only explanations that tried to justify it.

For years, I’ve treated myself and others badly, and I deeply regret that. I’m truly ashamed of my past behavior and apologize to anyone I’ve hurt.

Shia LaBeouf is facing new legal issues. He was arrested in New Orleans on February 17th for reportedly being involved in a fight at a bar, and is now facing two misdemeanor battery charges.

He was arrested in February on a minor battery charge, apparently connected to the same event.

Shia LaBeouf’s recent arrests almost prevented him from going to Rome earlier this month to witness his father’s baptism. However, a judge allowed him to travel to Italy anyway.
