FKA Twigs Devastated After Being Forced to Cancel North American Tour

It’s been announced that FKA twigs had to postpone her North American tour due to a staff member’s mistake which resulted in her lacking the necessary visa for performances.

She openly admitted that the tour encountered numerous difficulties in terms of production, ultimately resulting in cancellations and reschedulings of performances in the U.S.

37-year-old singer, feeling a deep sorrow, revealed that she regrettably needs to cancel her concerts in Chicago, Toronto, and New York as the necessary documents weren’t submitted on time.

In the video shared on X, she discussed some recent developments happening backstage in her life, speaking directly to viewers.

It appears that I’ve been on the Eusexua tour across the UK and Europe, and it’s truly remarkable! The audience response, the energy from the crowd, and the creative expression have all been phenomenal.

It’s all been simply fantastic, and I’m incredibly thankful for being a part of this remarkable journey.

It turns out that during the behind-the-scenes work on organizing this tour, including the more hands-on aspects of production, an oversight occurred: production failed to submit the necessary documents and meet the deadline for obtaining visas to travel to the USA and perform.

‘Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I won’t be able to perform in New York, Chicago, and Toronto. For those asking about Toronto, it’s not within the U.S., but rather Canada – this is because of tour routing and the intricate nature of live performances.’

I must admit, this situation is hitting me hard. I’m genuinely shattered by it, and the truth is, I feel my heart is aching. What I truly yearned for was to be by your side, to support you in every way possible, and to share our moments with Eusexua…

This is really tough on me. I’m sincerely sad about it. I feel like my heart is broken. All I wanted was to be there for you, to help out, and to enjoy time together with Eusexua…

Since 2019, I haven’t had the opportunity to perform in the USA, but it truly feels like a home away from home. This recent turn of events is a massive disappointment, leaving me feeling let down. I’m currently investigating how and why this happened, and I’m ensuring I have the necessary support to rectify this situation.

Taking all this into account, I plan to move these performances and updates will follow soon after. I am thrilled to share Eusexua with you, as it represents one of the most significant accomplishments in my journey.

This experience has been nothing short of a magical, soul-stirring journey. All I yearn for is to be with you, share my talents, and make your time memorable. I deeply regret any inconvenience this might have caused you in terms of plans. My sincere gratitude goes out to everyone for their understanding. We’ll work on rescheduling, and when we do, I promise to bring even more energy, passion, and strength than before.

Initially scheduled to give performances in Chicago, Illinois on March 26, Toronto, Canada on March 30, and two subsequent shows in New York on April 3 and 4 were planned for FKA twigs.

The Eusexua tour commenced under turbulent circumstances as the headliner called off the initial performances in Prague and Berlin due to complications regarding transportation or logistics.

On April 6, she’s due to take the stage in Mexico City, and then she’ll pick up the U.S. leg of her tour over the two weekends of Coachella, which starts on April 11.

She will perform in Mexico City on April 6 and continue the American part of her tour during both weekends of Coachella starting from April 11.

In January, FKA twigs shared insights about the sources of inspiration for her album EUSEXUA and the healing program she developed in conjunction with it.

In the recent installment of the Spotify Countdown To podcast, she had a conversation with renowned musician Imogen Heap, who served as the interviewer.

Tahliah Debrett Barnett, better known as Twigs, discussed the background of her upcoming album and her personal interpretation of its title, prior to its scheduled release on January 24th.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but exclaim my excitement over FKA twigs’ innovative concept, EUSEXUA. She’s not just naming it; she’s breathing life into THE ELEVEN – eleven profound pillars of movement that serve as a means for personal healing. Each pillar is a testament to her lifelong dedication to dance, with every principle born from her extensive studies in the art of movement.

Speaking about the album, the artist described it as a blend of subtly psychedelic, innocently playful, and whimsical reflections on humanity. However, beneath that surface lies a rugged, grimy, intense, and sensual undercurrent.

I devised these 11 key concepts and coined terms for each of them. Next to my album, I also came up with words such as ‘croning,’ which refers to an excessive dependence on technology.

The eleven key areas represented significant parts of my existence, and by examining them and making necessary changes, I believed I could get nearer to achieving EUSEXUA.

She added: ‘To me, expressing myself through EUSEXUA is about creating freely and openly, it’s about feeling more confident in my physical self sexually, it’s about being fully engaged and reaching the peak of human experience as often as I can.’

I came up with an 11-step healing program that involves a lot of twisting and shaking movements. It has a very raw, primal feel to it.

When discussing her reasons for creating the album, she confessed that it wasn’t optional, as before EUSEXUA she was barely holding on.

The situation seems crucial, and it’s essential for the existence of EUSEXUA. I had to establish a set of 11 foundational principles to bring it to life, and these principles serve as my guidance.

‘I am sharing these with the global community, as they have been invaluable to me throughout my life. Creating art becomes challenging when I am immersed in previous iterations of myself.’

As a lifestyle expert looking back on my past, I share with you that my journey into dance began at the tender age of seven. By the time I hit twelve, I had already transformed into a professional dancer. Competing in various dance competitions was a regular part of my life. My early years were spent under the watchful eye of classical training. However, as I grew older, I found myself developing an unexpected disdain for dance.

I strongly disliked the restrictions associated with it, and I also disliked that there was a specific physical appearance or standard expected.

In September, the singer presented a groundbreaking piece of performance art with a conceptual theme for the first time at Sotheby’s, a prestigious auction house that has been operational for 280 years.

As a lifestyle expert, I envisioned and brought to life an engaging visual art piece titled “The Eleven.” This dynamic creation features a revolving ensemble of eleven talented individuals, serving as the ‘movers,’ who breath life into this masterpiece through their captivating performances.

FKA twigs refers to her work as a ‘life-improving movement endeavor,’ which features performers executing ritualistic actions.

These choreographed actions are meant to correspond to eleven different aspects of living. 

She shared with the Financial Times that the approach she uses is comprehensive and built upon eleven key aspects that seem to be fundamental in many individuals’ lives as well.

Audiences at ‘The Eleven’ were encouraged to incorporate the practice into their own lives.

Five years ago, the concept was born and only recently took shape within her studio in east London, eventually being showcased at Sotheby’s.

The artwork was accompanied by a display of Twiggy’s sketchbooks, drawings, journals, and Polaroids, as well as photos taken by Jordan Hemmingway.

Hemmingway is twigs’ boyfriend who she revealed in a now deleted Instagram post in March 2023.

Twigs has since kept her relationship with the London-based photographer out of the public domain.

Simultaneously, she began conceptualizing this project, as per her accounts, twigs ended a turbulent relationship involving the Hollywood actor Shia LaBeouf, who is alleged to have been abusive.

In 2019, he and FKA Twigs parted ways, and in December of 2020, she filed a lawsuit in the Los Angeles Superior Court alleging that he had subjected her to sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, as well as intentionally transmitting a sexually transmitted infection to her.

LaBeouf has denied all of FKA Twigs’ allegations.
