Five up-and-coming Villains and Scream Queens to keep your eyes on

As a horror enthusiast who has spent countless nights huddled under blankets while watching these chilling masterpieces, I must say that my heart skipped a beat when I stumbled upon this list of modern scream queens and villains. It’s not every day one gets to delve into the dark, twisted minds of these talented individuals!

Don’t we all have a soft spot for the resilient final girl and the chilling slasher, don’t we? Slasher films often feature these characters, but they’re also common in thrillers. Jamie Lee Curtis and Robert Englund are notable examples, yet Scream Queens and Villains continue to be popular figures in horror cinema.

So, who are the best scream queens and bad guys currently? We did a deep dive into the subject and picked a few that we thought were the best at their jobs, and we’d love to share them with our readers.

Finn Wittrock effectively portrays a villain with an unsettling intensity. His countenance instills a deep-seated belief in his psychotic nature. Despite being fortunate, he possesses an extraordinary knack for turning his eyes into lifeless orbs, sending shivers down your back. He has graced the screens of American Horror Story across various seasons and Ratched, and more recently, Netflix’s blockbuster film Don’t Move. Given this, it’s no surprise that he takes on the role of a serial killer in Don’t Move, a movie guaranteed to elevate your pulse rate!

Maika Munroe, famously known as the Scream Queen, initially captured my interest back in 2014 with her role in ‘The Guest’. Since then, she has graced our screens in various thrilling films such as ‘It Follows’, ‘Villains’, ‘Watcher’, and most recently, ‘Longlegs’. Her acting is incredibly natural, often making viewers emotionally invested in the characters she portrays. Upcoming projects for Munroe include a remake of ‘The Hand that Rocks the Cradle’, and it’s safe to expect more horror roles from her in the future.

As a gamer, I’d say: Alicia Witt shows that you don’t need a Y-chromosome to play a ruthless character, like Ruth in ‘Longlegs’. *SPOILER ALERT* Despite her character emerging as a brutal killer, there’s a reason for her actions: she kills to protect her daughter. You might remember Alicia from the original ‘Dune’ and ‘Twin Peaks’, or maybe from genre faves like ‘Urban Legend’, ‘I Care a Lot’, and ‘The Walking Dead’. To keep things fair, she’s also starred in several Hallmark Christmas movies! However, her role in ‘Longlegs’ was nothing short of breathtakingly intense.

Kiernan Shipka, popularly known as the Scream Queen, gained significant recognition from her role in Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. However, she has also been seen in films such as Carriers, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, The Silence and Prime’s original production titled Totally Killer. Her talent was also acknowledged for her performance in the series Mad Men, where she made an appearance when she was just ten years old.

15-year-old actress Kathryn Newton made her film debut in “Paranormal Activity 4” and also starred on the series “Supernatural”. Her performance in the movie “Freaky”, where she played Millie opposite Vince Vaughn as a serial killer, received critical acclaim. In this film, their characters swap bodies, providing both actors with the task of portraying each other. This dual role was executed brilliantly! Newton also shone in this year’s “Abigail”, stealing every scene she appeared in.

Samara Weaving has received a well-earned nod on this list. While she had already made a name for herself as a horror genre star thanks to her roles in movies like The Babysitter and Ready or Not, she’s still selecting scripts within the horror genre. She was featured in Scream VI last year and will appear in Azrael this year.

As a gamer, I’ve got to give a shout-out to Nicolas Cage, who has consistently shown that he can bring both heartwarming goodness and bone-chilling evil to life on screen. His latest roles include those in “Longlegs”, “Arcadian”, and “Sympathy for the Devil”.
